Manuela’s POV

We were all at Patrick’s house for a pool and barbecue day. It had been about two weeks since they arrested that crazy Nicole, and things were calm again.
Even so, I noticed Flavian was a bit agitated. He walked quite far away to take a call and seemed very nervous. He had been like this for a while – distant, agitated, and receiving mysterious messages and calls. But I thought it was just work–related, so I didn’t keep asking questions.
Virginia sat down on the lounger next to me and caught my attention.
“What’s going on, Little Key?”
“Nothing’s going on, Vi!” I tried to cover up.
“Oh, but something is. And you’re not going to do like Sam and keep us in the dark. Should I call Melissa now? Virginia threatened, and I thought it better not to involve Melissa yet – she was capable of subjecting Flavian to torture until he confessed even things he hadn’t done.
“Don’t call Mel, not now,” I said quickly. “It’s just that Flavian’s acting strange.”
“Strange how?” she asked me, looking in his direction. “I mean, I noticed he’s more stressed and hasn’t put down his phone, always walking away to answer calls, but he’s a detective and we know he tends to be stressed anyway.”
“Yeah, but it’s different, Vi. I don’t know what it is…. just a feeling. But maybe I’m just being crazy.”
“Have you talked to him?” Virginia continued watching Flavian gesture nervously.
“I don’t want to seem like one of those insecure girlfriends who monitors everything. I’m much younger than him and don’t want to give him any reason to call me immature,” I explained.
“But you’re not immature, you’ve just noticed a change in behavior and you’re uncomfortable with it. You need to talk to him.”
“Yeah, you’re right, I’ll do that when we get home.”
Shortly after, Flavian came over to me. He was irritated, restless, nervous.
“Little one, there’s a problem and I need to go to the station,” he bent down to kiss me.
“Oh, then drop me off at home on your way,” I said, already getting up.
“No!” Flavian said abruptly. “Little one, stay, it’s a beautiful day, enjoy it with everyone.”
“Hey, what’s up Manu? Want to run away with your handsome man?” Melissa approached.
“No, Mel, Flavian has to work and I asked him to drop me home,” explained.
“What, Detective, weren’t you off duty?” Melissa found it strange.
“Occupational hazard, Melissa. But I’m telling my little one to stay and enjoy the day.” Flavian ran his hand through my hair.
“That’s right, you stay, Little Key. Fred and I will drop you home later, it’s practically next door,” Melissa, as always, had already decided.
“No need, Mel, I’ll come back to pick up my little one when I’m done at the station,” Flavian smiled at me, but that smile was
tense.
“Flavian, is everything okay?” I asked, getting worried.
“Yes, it’s just routine. But I wished I could stay with you.” He gave me a kiss. “I’ll come pick you up later.”

He got up to leave, but before going out, he discreetly pulled Patric Inside the house and said something. This didn’t go unnoticed by either Melissa or me.
“That’s weird, huh?” Melissa commented: “What’s going on, Little Key? And don’t even try saying it’s nothing.”
As expected, nothing escaped Melissa’s watchful eyes. Seeing how worried I was, she quickly called the other girls and led us to
the sauna.
In the sauna, I ended up telling the girls about Flavian’s strange behavior, the weird phone calls, including those in the middle of the night, his odd trips to the police station during strange hours and on his days off, and the constant nervousness I noticed in him.
“When did this start, Manu?” Catherine asked.
“It’s been a while,” I said simply.
“And you didn’t share this with us? Did you do the same as Samantha?” Melissa was somewhat irritated.
“Actually, when it started, I thought it was just work stuff. But as he kept getting stranger, I’m not so sure anymore,” I explained. “Well, we’re going to find out, even if I have to hand the sweetie over to Mel for torture,” Virginia sad, making us all laugh. We returned to the pool, and the guys were whispering around the barbecue.
“Great, now I think they’re all acting weird!” Catherine said.
“I don’t think so, Cat, I’m sure of it,” Melissa crossed her arms. “Let’s give them some time.”
In the middle of the afternoon, Melissa’s phone rang, and she smiled.
“Let’s see if the detective went to the police station,” she said, showing her phone screen lighting up with Detective Bonfim’s name before answering on speakerphone. “Bonfim, my favorite detective!”
“Boss lady! How are you, dear?”
“Good, and you?”
“Need some advice from you.”
“That’s going to cost you, Bonfim.” The man laughed on the other end of the line.
“Anything you want, Boss lady!”
“So, what do you need?”
“My wife is mad at me because I had to work today and couldn’t take her to some picnic with friends at a waterfall or something like that. So I need to apologize to her unless I want to sleep on the couch.” Melissa let out an amused laugh.
“I’ll send you the name and number of an amazing spa. Call them and book a couples package for you two. Tell them I referred you, and they’ll give you VIP treatment. I bet she’ll forgive you. And if you can get it for today after your shift, even better.” Melissa smiled.
“Oh, you’re amazing, Boss Lady! You really know your stuff!” Bonfim laughed. “Now, what can I do for you?”
“Why are you on duty today, Bonfim?” Melissa asked casually.
“The detective from the other team caught a virus and asked me to switch shifts with him.”
“Oh! Is Flavian working today too?” Melissa spoke as if she wasn’t really interested.
