Manuela’s POV

I was pretty excited about Catherine’s wedding. It had been a long time since I’d gone to a party, and I loved parties. Catherine had asked me to be one of her bridesmaids and said I would be paired with a friend of Patrick’s. I didn’t know who he was and was curious, constantly pestering Samantha with questions about his friend.

“Oh, Manu, he was at the office this week. There’s no way you missed Detective Flavian, he’s huge,” Samantha laughed while helping me zip up my dress.

“Sam, that office was chaos, people coming and going, and that phone, wouldn’t stop ringing. I didn’t see this man. Tell me, what’s he like?” I asked once again, trying to get information out of her.

“Done! Now zip mine up.” Sam turned so I could zip up her dress.” already told you I’m not saying anything. You’ll see him with your own eyes soon enough. But I find it amazing that you didn’t notice him.”

“I didn’t. Oh, I hope he’s at least cute. He doesn’t need to be as gorgeous as the guys or that Greek god from the dealership…” I muttered, remembering that beautiful man who wouldn’t leave my thoughts.

“That stranger really made an impression on you, huh, Manu.” I had told Sam about the most handsome man on Earth.

“Girl, I even dreamed about him,” I commented and regretted it the next second.

“Oh really? What did you dream about? Tell me you dreamed he was making out with you.” Samantha teased, making me turn red as a tomato.

“Sam!” I protested. “Actually, I just dreamed about him at the dealership, smiling at me.”

“Not even one little kiss in that dream?” Samantha seemed disappointed.

“Nope. Let’s change the subject. I’ll never see that god again anyway.” I lamented.

“Never say never, Manu.” Samantha laughed. “But you’ll like the detective, he’s very friendly.”

“Oh! Friendly, is he?” I side–eyed her, which made her start laughing.

“Bridesmaids, is everyone ready?” Melissa came in, getting everyone’s attention. “Come on, it’s time to meet up with the guys, the wedding’s about to start.”

We headed out to the garden, and I had to bend down to pick up my bracelet that had fallen off my arm – the clasp had come loose. Maybe it would be better to keep it safe and get it fixed before I lost it. That’s when I heard Melissa calling me, and I approached her while still looking at my bracelet, until I felt her hand on my back pushing me toward the man who would be my partner for the wedding.

When I looked at that man, my legs trembled and I started to stutter. I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. Detective Flavian Moreno, my partner at the wedding, was the Greek god from the dealership! Oh, this had to be some kind of joke from destiny. I stared at him, completely lost in my surprise, while he looked at me with that dazzling smile and spoke with such gentleness.

When Melissa lined us up, he offered me his arm, which I took with trembling and hesitation.

“Are you nervous, Manu?” He leaned towards me.

“M–me? N–no.” Damn, I could not stop stuttering, my hands were sweating, and I was shaking a little. And he would not wipe that wonderful smile off his face, which made it very difficult for me to concentrate.

“So you are afraid of me,” he whispered close to my ear.

“That’s not it.” I could feel my cheeks burning and knew I was blushing, so I averted my eyes from him, trying to calm down.

“What is it then? If you are cold, I can hold you to keep you warm.” And there it was, I certainly turned bright red, completely

embarrassed. He was having fun at my expense.

“It’s not cold. It’s, oh my god,” I muttered as if asking for divine inspiration while he kept laughing, “it’s just that you are a detective, someone important, and I am just an ordinary, uninteresting girl. I am going to bore you.”

“Ah! I see. But I do not see it the same way you do. First of all, yes, am a detective, but that does not make me anyone important. As for you, you are not a girl, you are a beautiful woman who is giving me the honor of accompanying me today. I do not think I will be bored.” He replied, moving closer to my face. He was definitely teasing me.

“Well, if you say so,” I said awkwardly. But I would not let him intimidate me just because he was handsome. I was going to enjoy the party.

And as time went by, I started to relax. Flavian was great company thought that after the ceremony, he would run off chasing some other beautiful and interesting guest, but no, he stayed with me the whole time, holding my hand as much as possible, danced with me, gave me attention, in short, he was a gentleman throughout.

We talked a lot and discovered we had many things in common; I was really having fun with him. But as soon as Henry gave us some space, I pulled Sam to the bathroom because I needed to tell her something.

“Girl, what’s going on? You dragged me in here like we were fugitives,” Sam laughed as we entered the bathroom.

“Oh, Sam, sorry, but I need to tell you something.” I was hopping from one foot to the other.

“Tell me what, Manu?” Sam was touching up her makeup in the mirror.

“The guy from the dealership…”

“What? The god is here?” Sam looked at me expectantly.
