Flavian’s POV
I left Manu’s apartment, but she wouldn’t leave my mind. I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep, but when exhaustion finally overcame my racing thoughts, I dreamed about her all night long, dreamed that she was mine.
During the hours we spent together at Alexander and Catherine’s wedding, Manu enchanted me even more. She wasn’t just beautiful; she was intelligent, fun, and clever. She could easily make me laugh, made me feel calm and relaxed, unlike my usual stressed self. What I felt the moment I saw her only intensified after spending time with her.
And the moment I kissed her, I sealed my fate. Her lips, initially hesitant, met mine in such a perfect way that it seemed as if her mouth had been molded to mine. Our first kiss was perfect, even at the beginning when it was somewhat tense and awkward, and it became deliciously perfect as our tongues found their rhythm. Manu had a sweet and addictive taste, and all I could think about was kissing her again.
When we got out of the car at her building’s entrance and I grabbed her waist and pressed her against the car, bringing my body close to hers, enveloping her with my body, I felt as if she had been designed for my embrace. Her body fit against mine as if our touch created a perfect and unique combination. Oh, this girl was going to mess with my head! 19
I woke up this morning with my head full of thoughts and a sharp fear that Manu would decide she didn’t want anything with me. I was crazy about this woman and, for the first time in my life, didn’t know what to do. I was already anxious for her answer, wanted to hear her say she wanted me, just as I wanted her, with a crazy and inexplicable desire. But I had condemned myself to an agonizing wait that would drive me mad.
I needed to occupy my mind, so I called Fred who had offered me his apartment, and we arranged to meet to see the place. The guy was a gentleman, living up to his family’s reputation in Bellwood for being remarkable people of refined manners. We met at the apartment, and the place was perfect. I closed the deal with him right away. We would handle the paperwork during the
week.
I would move in immediately since the apartment was already comfortably furnished. I was already getting an idea to attract the little one and put an end to the time I gave her to think. An indefinite wait hadn’t been smart on my part, so I would invite her for dinner the next day if she didn’t call me today.
And she didn’t call! I was climbing the walls. I decided to use the time to plan the dinner, I would invite her tomorrow. I went out, did some shopping, and got everything planned. I would use the excuse of showing her my house, and if necessary, I would even appeal to her emotions by saying I wanted to celebrate my work promotion with someone important. Everything was prepared, I would have another long night without her.
The next day, the opportunity arose. Bonfim and I were going to Alexander’s office to take Catherine’s statement. I was quite anxious when the elevator opened and I saw her sitting at that desk, absorbed in her work, just like the first time I saw her. My heart raced, and I took a deep breath trying to control myself.
“Damn, Flavian, you’re not a teenager!” I whispered to myself.
Rick approached to greet us as soon as we got out of the elevator and held Bonfim back, winking at me as if he knew what I wanted to do. I took the opportunity and went to Manu.
She called me “Detective Moreno” and I corrected her, saying it was just Flavian. She would get nervous around me and started stuttering, becoming slightly flushed when I held her hand. Then I asked her out to dinner.
“I–I can’t today. I’m going out with the girls.” She threw cold water on my plans; I already knew I couldn’t compete with the girls.
“Oh yeah, the troop, as Alexander calls them,” I said, trying to control my urge to kiss her. I took a strand of her hair and tucked it behind her ear, giving her a subtle caress there. “But weren’t these club meetings on Tuesdays? It’s still Monday.”
She simply told me they had changed the day of the girls‘ meeting, so I suggested the next day, and she said she had class. If I wasn’t careful, this little one would keep dodging me all week, so I quickly said I would pick her up from college after class. She couldn’t escape because Bonfim approached right then. Perfect, I had set a deadline for her.

When I left Alexander’s office, I was more confident because the guys told me Manu was eager to talk to the girls, which is why they moved up the week’s meeting. This could be good.
But by late afternoon, things escalated – Catherine received a threat, and all the girls could be targets of the lunatic who was threatening Alexander’s wife. I wouldn’t leave Manu alone in her apartment, and even though Alexander had offered his house, I wanted the little one near me. I would take her to my house, and her protests wouldn’t change my mind.
