Flavian’s POV
The little one had told me her mother was difficult, but she never mentioned their relationship was so tense. We were alike even in that way, I thought with a bitter taste in my mouth, since family should be synonymous with protection, love, care, and acceptance Yet I knew better than anyone that things don’t always work out that way.
But my little one had me, and I would take care of her. I would start by resolving this phone situation, as I didn’t think it was good for her to keep her phone turned off. I left the police station a bit early and went to a store to buy her a new phone, so I would always be able to talk to her, even if she wanted to turn off the other one to avoid her mother’s calls. Then I went to pick her up.
Manu was waiting for me as planned, she was calm, but her eyes still looked somewhat dejected. The way that beautiful little one looked at me completely disarmed me. And Patrick caught us like that, in a precious and intimate moment. Of course, my friend didn’t miss the opportunity to tease us, but he planted a seed of doubt in my mind.
Until then, I had been sure that what I felt for Manu was an irresistible attraction, as if she had cast a spell on me and kept me captive with her charms, maybe even one of those crazy passions that come and go like a hurricane, leaving nothing behind after they pass. But then Patrick comes along and speaks with
unwavering conviction that what I was feeling was love, pure and perfect, the kind you could wait a lifetime for and when it arrives, it lasts forever.
Patrick’s conviction stirred something inside me, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was make me think about how wonderful it would be if this feeling truly made its home in me. Manu looked at me with the sweetest eyes I had ever seen in my life, and I couldn’t tear my gaze away from hers.
I told my friend the truth, that she had me in the palm of her hands. That was a fact. I just hoped she felt something for me as intense and inexplicable as what I felt for her because I knew that the day she left me, I would be finished, as I could no longer imagine my life without my little one. Whether this was love, I still didn’t know, maybe it was, but it was such a strong feeling that sometimes it left me breathless, as if I were suspended on a rope and couldn’t let go, as if Manu kept me safe.
We left the office hand in hand, but in complete silence. Patrick’s words were spinning in my head. Could it be love? How could I be sure of that? And if it was love and she didn’t feel the same way? What would I do if she didn’t love me too? I was feeling insecure and, for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t certain about something in my life. At that moment, the only thing I had no doubt about was that I wanted to be with her. “Little one, which dealership are we going to pick up your car from?” I finally asked when we got in the car.
“The same one where you bought yours,” she answered naturally.
“How do you know where I bought my car?” I found it curious that she knew that.
“Because I bought my car on Friday, before Catherine and Alexander’s wedding, they just didn’t have the color I wanted in stock. I saw you at the dealership.” I stopped at a red light and my eyes flew to her.
“At the dealership?”
“Yeah, I was just finishing up buying my car when you walked in, looking like a hot Greek god. I couldn’t take my eyes off you.” I was happy to hear that she couldn’t take her eyes off me.

“A hot Greek god, huh?” I looked at her with a huge smile and she nodded. “And why didn’t you talk to me?” I would have liked to have met her before the wedding.
“Because I didn’t know who you were.”
“How could you not know, Manu? I was at the office days before.”
“Yeah, but when you were at the office, I didn’t see you.
“Didn’t see me? I walked right past you, little one. You didn’t even look at me, but I saw you.”
“That office was crazy that day, Flavian. There were so many people in reception, lots of people coming and going, and I just didn’t see you.”
“That’s incredible, little one.” I smiled at the situation. It really was almost impossible, but there was indeed a lot going on in that office the first time I went there. “But you could have talked to me at the dealership.”
“And say what, Flavian?” She looked at me as if I had said something absurd.
“I don’t know, something like ‘hi, I’m Manuela, the love of your life, and you’re a hot Greek god.“” I smiled at her as she looked at me with wide eyes and started laughing. “If I had seen you, I would have talked to you.
“Of course you would have, you’re a hot Greek god, you would have talked to me all confident that I was drooling over you.” She said, and I laughed.
“You really think I’m all that, don’t you?!” She nodded. “Oh, little one, you’re so good for my ego…” “And what would you have said to me?” She asked, all curious.
“I would have said that you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and that I’m the love of your life.” She smiled, and I took advantage of the red light to give her a kiss. “That day I was already eager to see you, little one.”
When we arrived at the dealership, we were helped by a salesman who gave Manu a friendly smile. She was polite with him and quite talkative. He showed us the car, and I was quite impressed with her choice.
“What is it, Flavian?” She noticed I was looking at the car quite surprised.
“I thought you had bought a compact car. This is a pretty big SUV. And this blue is like a beacon, it’s so bright. Little one, I thought you were more discreet.” She laughed.
“Flavian, I’m already compact! I like big things.” Her eyes sparkled at me, making my smile grow wider.” And I love this blue.”
The salesman let out a laugh, amused by Manu’s excitement.
“You finally took the test drive, miss.” The salesman said to her, and she blushed slightly but laughed.
