It was as if Manu’s brightness had transformed into darkness as soon as her phone started ringing. She began trembling, her smile faded, and her eyes became tense as her body stiffened,

“Damn! It’s my mother again,” Manu said with apprehension and a hint of sadness.

“Honey, answer it. She won’t stop calling, I’m sure of that.”

“I’ll answer in the apartment,” Manu sighed. “I’m not going to college today. The professor who was supposed to teach had to cancel and sent a message to the group. I turned on my phone to check the messages and forgot to turn it off again.”
