Flavian’s POV
My father was sitting in a chair near my office door. Wearing his expensive three-piece suit, he stood out in the environment. But there he was with that stoic expression. I knew he was a man with a mission. He would not give up on things easily.
"Dad! Have you been waiting long? You should have called me," I said, trying to be cordial.
"I arrived less than five minutes ago, Flavian. I want to talk to you, and I'm sure you already know what this is about." My father was a man in his mid-sixties, but very imposing and extremely active, which made him look even younger. He was also direct and straightforward.
"Let's go to my office." I pointed to the direction and had to hold myself back from huffing and grumbling like a kid.
My father looked around my office with disdain, as if evaluating each object there with contempt.
"How are things in Bellwood?" I tried to be cordial, but when my father was in a bad mood, he forgot his manners.
"I'm not here to tell you how things are in Bellwood. I came to end your spoiled boy party and take you home so you can take on your responsibilities."
"You know I'm thirty-five, right? You surely know that this approach of yours hasn't worked with me for a long time. And you know even better that I'm not going anywhere. I won't leave the police force, I won't go back to Bellwood, and I certainly won't work in your company. My responsibilities don't include your company."
"I'll disinherit you, Flavian. So it's very simple. Either you come back, or you get no inheritance." He was strangely calm.
"Are you seriously threatening me with that again? How many times have you tried this? And I always say the same thing. But fine, I'll repeat it one more time." I spoke calmly, knowing there was no point in getting angry and yelling at him, I had known this for a long time. Our conversations were always like business negotiations, no matter how irritated we were. "Dad, I live on my salary and my investments. Your money doesn't mean anything to me, and I'm not impressed by it. I haven't lived off your money since I stopped working for you and left home."
"Flavian, be reasonable, it's the family business! What do you want, for me to leave it in the hands of strangers?" my father complained.
"The family business is very well managed by my brother. And you would be much better off if you allowed Lexie to take the position you want to give me, you know she's very capable and wants to work there."
"Your sister is an airhead! This is just another one of her whims. Like everything she sets her mind to and claims to want. She's very immature, doesn't think, she's already twenty-eight and doesn't think about the future. Now she's decided to make a fuss and refuse to commit to William, which would be great for business. You must know about this." My father complained.
"That jerk? Yes, I know about it. What I don't understand is you and Mom trying to force Lexie into a loveless marriage with a clown who lives for partying, drinking, and womanizing. That would condemn Lexie to suffering." I said it anyway and didn't care what he would say, this William guy was a creep.
