Flavian’s POV

I entered the hotel bar and saw, at a table in the back on the bar's veranda, the unmistakable figure of that tall, slender woman with wavy, shiny brown hair, wearing a black dress with a plunging neckline, holding a strawberry daiquiri in one hand and a cigarette in the other, as always. That woman who had once been my wife, who decided to make me choose between her and my profession, and then simply left.

I walked toward her, taking in the scene. Sabrina had barely changed; she was still a beautiful and provocative woman. We were the same age, our parents were friends, we studied together, and I hadn't even noticed that we were always being pushed together by our parents. Before I knew it, I was married and thought she was the right woman for me. Until she backed me into a corner and I refused to leave the police force and return to my father's company like a trained puppy. And I made the right choice!

"Why the hell does a dead person come out of their grave to make my life miserable?" I asked, letting all my irritation overflow.

"You shouldn't talk to your wife like that!" She laughed.

"Sabrina, you haven't been my wife for a long time," I shot back.

"Oh, no? Then sit down, Flavian, so you don't fall from your high horse." She was mocking me, and it irritated me even more.

"What do you want, Sabrina?"

"The same thing I wanted seven years ago, for you to wake up to reality. I'm tired of being nice and waiting for you to make up your mind, Flavian. I'm going to do things my way." Where did she get this certainty that I would do her bidding now, when I hadn't done it while we were married?

"And who do you think you are to talk to me like this?"

"Your wife, Flavian. The one to whom you said yes in a church full of guests. Remember?"

"Sabrina, that's in the past. Our marriage ended and we got divorced. You left my life because you wanted to, and I left yours. You went traveling the world with the small fortune you took from me, and I stayed free and happy."

"You might think you divorced me in the eyes of men, Flavian, but remember what the priest said? What God has joined together, let no man separate."

"Oh, please, Sabrina. Even you don't believe that!"

"Now I do. I want my husband back. Flavian, I love you, and I know you love me too."

"My God, you've gone crazy. Sabrina, forget about me, live your life, and don't mess with mine."

"You're like this because of that nymphet. But I know it's just a flash in the pan, just the excitement of a young woman, it'll pass quickly. Who is she?"

"Stay away from her! Don't even talk about her!" Just thinking about Sabrina getting near Manu made me desperate. Sabrina was an experienced and very clever woman; she could be cruel to Manu, and I wouldn't allow that.

"Look, he's defending the little creature." She analyzed me without flinching. "But I have something to tell you that I know will change everything."
