Flavian’s POV
I spent days trying to smooth things over with Manu. I was certain she suspected something; she had been very quiet and withdrawn, always too tired or with her face buried in some book. I decided to take her for a weekend at the same farm resort where we celebrated her birthday. A weekend just for us, without interruptions. And it was perfect. She started smiling again, and we spent the weekend inseparable, reconnecting, although she still seemed suspicious of something.
On Monday, I entered the police station with a purpose: to resolve this problem that was Sabrina. I needed to handle this situation. But I had barely arrived when I was surprised by news that deeply irritated me.
"Flavian, unfortunately, I don't have good news," Bonfim looked at me as if studying me, thinking of the best way to deliver the message.
"What is it now, Bonfim?" I dropped my pen on the desk and leaned back in my chair.
"The governor wants you transferred back to Bellwood, and the Secretary is having trouble convincing him that you should stay here. The Secretary will probably give in and transfer you." Bonfim dropped the bomb all at once.
"Damn it! My father has no limits. This is his doing, I'm sure of it." I huffed.
"I think so too. But I don't know what to do. I asked the Secretary to insist on keeping you here, but he's facing a lot of resistance from the governor." Bonfim didn't need to explain; I knew well that the governor wouldn't want to lose such an influential ally as my father.
"Bonfim, keep pressing the Secretary. I'll see what I can do." I needed to think of something.
"Are you going to talk to your father?"
"That would not help. But maybe I have some friends who can help. Check with the Secretary what he can do and if there's anything I can do, please." I asked my friend, who looked at me with concern.
"I'll keep trying." Bonfim left my office, and I sat there thinking.
When Bonfim returned to my office, I was just finishing updating Henry about the search for his father, but Bonfim had apparently made it his mission to be the bearer of bad news that day. He hadn't made any progress, but I needed to prevent this transfer.
After Bonfim and Henry left my office, I thought about it some more and couldn't see any way out. I would need to ask a favor from a friend. I didn't like doing this, as I believed friendship should be free from personal interests, but I needed help and had to ask.
I picked up my phone, called Patrick and scheduled lunch with him and Alexander. At the appointed time, I was already waiting for them at the restaurant.
"Well, look who it is! The all-powerful Detective Flavian Moreno gracing us mere mortals with his presence," Patrick arrived joking around.
"You're such a clown, you know that?" I replied, and my friend laughed. "How do you put up with him, Alexander?"
"I honestly don't know," Alexander laughed.
"Oh, come on, you both love me!" Patrick sat down, full of confidence. "Flavian, for you to call saying you needed something, it must be really important. What's going on?"
"I've got a pretty big problem on my hands," I sighed.
"Another one?" Alexander laughed. "Man, I don't know what could be worse than an ex-wife who's no longer an ex and a tyrannical father."
