Chapter 23 

The conversation with Richard went smoothly. Isadora gained many insights from him and nodded repeatedly. 

Time passed, and Chester called Isadora, saying, “Come out.” 

She had asked most of her questions, but wouldn’t it be inappropriate to leave just like this? 

“Ches, wait…” 

“Isadora, have some fruits.” Richard smiled at her. “These are imported. A friend brought them from abroad. Try some.” 

“Thank you, Mr. Lane.” 

Isadora felt a bit embarrassed. “Mr. Lane, it’s getting late. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take leave now.” 

She felt it was impolite of her to say that, and her face turned red. 

“Are you in a hurry? You haven’t had the tea or the fruits.”

“My brother came to pick me up. We have… family rules. I have to be home before 9:00 pm.” Isadora made up an excuse. 

“Let me send you, then.” 

“No need, Mr. Lane.” 

“I insist.” 

“How can I let my boss drive me?” 

“I was no longer your boss the moment you left the company. You’re starting your own business now. Feel free to ask me anything if you don’t understand anything.” 

The car stopped outside the villa, and Angelina was so nervous that sweat appeared on her face. When she heard Isadora’s voice, she finally relaxed a little. 

She leaned against the car, her legs nearly giving out. 

Chester didn’t know what was wrong with her, so he placed a hand in front of her for support. 

Angelina let him be as she locked her eyes on the scene. Their car was parked under a streetlight. She was leaning against the car, and Chester had his arms wrapped around her 

waist. 

“Ches, Angelina!”

When Isadora came out, Angelina stared at Richard unabashedly. To see more clearly, she event took a few steps forward. 

In the novel, it was stated that Isadora’s old boss had a buzz cut, and he was slightly chubby. He looked like a kind yet strict middle–aged man 

Richard’s appearance perfectly matched that description. 

“Angelina, what are you looking at?” Isadora then smiled and said, “Mr. Lane, this is my brother and sister–in–law. Angelina, Ches, this is Mr. Lane, my former boss.” 

“You have a good family bond.” 

“Thank you for taking care of my sister, Mr. Lane” Chester extended his hand. 

“I really like Isadora. If my daughter were alive, she’d be about her age now.” 

“It’s getting late, Mr. Lane. We’ll take Isadora with us now.” 

Angelina was still staring at Richard. After getting into the car, she remained silent. 

“Ches, why did we 

come here?” 

“To check on you. Don’t go out so late next time 

“It was really awkward for you guys to suddenly show up. We were having a great 

conversation.” 

“Don’t schedule your meetings at night next time.” 

“Hey, Mr. Lane is a really good person. What are you guys thinking about?” 

When the car stopped at the apartment, Angelina suddenly turned around. “Isadora, don’t trust people too easily. They might disappoint you.” 

Angelina was exhausted and shaken. As soon as she got back and lay on the bed, she felt overwhelmingly sleepy. Chester handed her a glass of water, but she didn’t react at all. 

“Did I disappoint you?” he asked.
