Chapter 56 

“Chester didn’t let me come in. Look what I brought you.” Dressed in black, Louis was sweating profusely, and he looked disheveled. “These are the two handbags you’ve always wanted. 

“This is a gift for Catherine, and these are some clothes. This is a card for you. Don’t turn it down–I’m giving you all the money I earned abroad.” 

Angelina couldn’t move, so she had no choice but to stay put in his arms. “Let me go. I think I pulled on my wound.” 

Only then did Louis finally let go. Angelina took a deep breath and said, “I’ll accept the rest, but take the bags and the card back. They’re too expensive.” 

“Why are you being polite with me? I asked you to take them, so take them!” 

“No.” 

Louis explained, “I’ve truly tried my best, but I’m not capable enough. I’ve only managed to save three million after being abroad for so long I’ll earn more money for you and Catherine to have a better life. Once I earn more, you can divorce Chester. 

“Angie, that lame software of his isn’t going to sell. Once it fails, he’ll be in debt. Do you know, you’ll have to spend the rest of your life miserably with him?” 

Louis knelt down but was still taller than her as she lay in bed. Stroking her face, he said, Look at what you’ve become. How about you just divorce him right now? You’ll have to suffer with him if his software fails and he goes into debt. 

“But… But it’s okay. I’ll help you pay it off. Angle, please be with me. I promise you’ll have a better life with me than with Chester.”

His hand was rough and had calluses, indicating his years of hardship working crude jobs. 

In the novel, after the female side character divorced Chester, Louis came to see her. Yet she never recognized her own worth and looked down on Louis for only having a few million dollars. She felt she was too good for him and deemed him “broke“. 

She constantly insulted him and often drove him to tears. Despite his desperate pleas and helpless tears, she never spared him a second glance. No wonder she ended up with such a tragic fate. 

Ironically, Louis was also the one who cleaned up her mess. Even when she was utterly ruined, le remained by her side. 

In the past, she said a few flattering words because of his unique identity. Perhaps, in his heart, that was what healed him. 

Angelina wasn’t too sure about Louis‘ ending after the female side character’s death. Yet she could imagine that someone who loved her so deeply would be beyond devastated. 

Angelina wanted to say something harsh to chase him off. Yet those words just couldn’t come out. “Louis…” 

“This is everything I have for now. I asked Ryan to give it to you last time. Why didn’t you accept it?” 

“I–I can’t pay you back.” 

“Who asked you to? I don’t need you to pay me back. I’ll even give you my life if you ask for it. Angie, you used to say I looked cool playing basketball. After going abroad, I’ve been playing every day. Now-” 

Suddenly, the lights were switched on. Standing at the ward’s doorway, Chester saw Louis holding Angelina’s hand endearingly while kneeling beside her bed. 

Louis was dressed entirely in black, looking like some sort of assassin, except that his face wasn’t covered. Angelina quickly withdrew her hand. “Louis, you should leave. I’ll never be with you.” 

Joshua stood behind Chester and was just as stunned by the scene before them. They had been on their way 

to have a drink, but Chester insisted on coming back to check on Angelina. Joshua even teased him for becoming henpecked after practicing celibacy for years.
