It wasn't until later that night while I was in the shower that I let myself think about my parents. If I had only listened to my parents.
"Clare, why do you have to rush this?" My mother said in a calming voice even though the room was anything but.
"Why can't you both just be happy for me?" I came home from school today to tell my parents I was moving in with Derek and they didn't take it too well.
"We do want you to be happy." My mother whispers while my father just stands there with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Then why are you making such a big deal out of this. I love him Mum and he loves me. Why can't you just accept this?" I raise my voice and I can feel my temper coming through.
"Accept it Clare, are you serious? I don't even know the guy well enough and I come home to hear my daughter is not only going to move in with a total stranger but also Mate." My father raises his voice while my mother tries to calm him down.
"It's not my fault that you never went out of your way to get to know him. Every time I bought Derek over you would be an ass to him." I yell at my father wishing that he could just understand.
"He is 19 Clare and you are 15. Why can't you just wait a few years?" My mother whispers before my father can say anything else.
"I don't care about age, I love him."
"You are 5 how do you know what love is. You are still a child Clare and I am not letting you move in with that boy. I forbid it." My father states and I scream.
"I don't care what you have to say Dad if you loved me than you would let me make my own choices in life." I yell at him and run into my room throwing all my cloths into a bag before coming back downstairs to my mother and father talking in hushed whispers.
"Where the hell do you think you are going young lady?" My fathers face heats up and I can see his eyes darkening.
"I am leaving. Derek and I will come back for the rest of my stuff." I go to leave but my mother grabs my arm.
"Clare please don't leave. We do love you but you don't have to move in with Derek. Wait until you at least finish school." I can hear her voice breaking while I get out of her hold.
"If you really loved me Dad you would be happy for me, and I can see that is never going to happen so I don't ever want to see you again until you can accept Derek like a son." I turn my back on my mother who is now balling her eyes out and my dad trying to comfort her.
"Jason don't make her go, make her, stay please." My mother wails. I see Derek pull up and I smile at him as he gets out.
He wraps a hand around my shoulder and turns me to face my parents.
"You don't have to worry, I will take good care of Clare. I love her but I just wish you could see that." With those final words we both walk away into a new life.
"Clare are you alright?" I am bought out of my daze at the sound of Conner tapping at the door.
"Yeah sorry." I turn off the shower and avoid looking at myself in the mirror. I dress in some track pant and a shirt that is way too big for me. I walk out of the steaming room to see Grace already asleep in Conner's bed.
"I didn't know where you wanted to stay tonight so I just-" He rubs the back of his neck trying to ease the tension from his nervousness.
