"I can sleep on the couch and you can take the bed." I walk around to the bed and grab a pillow but Conner takes it out of my hand.
"No you take the bed." I shake my head and go and sit on the lounge. When I sit down my put my head in-between my hands letting out a loud and sad sigh.
"You ok Clare?" I look up from my hands to see Conner looking at me.
"Yeah, just thinking about my parents." I look back over to Grace knowing that she will never get to meet my parents because of my stupidity.
"Tell me about them." I look back at Conner who has a frown on his face.
"What, my parents?" He nods my head and I look down at my hands.
"My mother and father are not true mates but they still love each other. They didn't hold any positions in the pack but they had a small family business in town." I find myself smiling as I remember the days before I meet Derek where I would spend hours in the shop running around.
"They owned a small homemade bakery. I remember when I was younger I would always sneak into the shop in the morning and eat all the cakes that just came out the oven. I was always daddy's little girl but dad and I just to both got into some temper matches when I was younger. You wouldn't think it but I used to have the worst temper in the world. Even with Derek I was always a bit of a hot head and that's what at first got me into a lot of trouble." I smile weakly to myself trying to stop the memories from overtaking. I couch before I start again.
"Yes I can do that." Eventually I feel myself being picked up and placed into bed next to Grace. I feel Conner kiss my head before I fall into an abyss of darkness known as sleep.
Over the next few days I feel myself becoming more comfortable with pack life. I find myself letting Grace out of my sight more often to play with other children, while I find myself starting to enjoy living in a pack. I still have the habit of waking up every morning to make breakfast for Conner and everyone and making sure that the house is always clean even though I have been told many times by Ivy and Felix that it is not needed.
I have been spending my nights in Conner's room. We don't sleep in the same bed but after a few days of Conner sleeping on the lounge he had a single air mattress brought in which he now sleeps on while Grace and I share the bed. I find myself opening up more to Conner about my childhood and he has been helping and teaching me things about myself that I never knew.
