"Mum it wasn't your fault. I could have left many times but I kept believe that he loved me. For a long time I thought it as punishment because I didn't love him enough and by the time I realised he never loved me and I didn't love him, it was too late." Mum is crying and I know she feels guilty that she never knew.
"I am your mother Clare, I am meant to know when things are not right. Your father and I should have fought for you harder instead of letting you go. We thought if you saw what kind of a man Derek was you would leave him. We never thought that he would physically harm you." I feel tears run down my own face as I look away from Mum. I can't stand to see the guilt behind her eyes.
"Did you know that we came over all the time to see you? Every time Derek said you were out, asleep or sick and we believed him. I knew something wasn't right when we went over, but we didn't do anything. I am so sorry Clare, I should have fought harder." I pull Mum into a hug as we both cry again.
My parents loved me enough to fight to see me. Derek told me over and over again that my parents didn't love me because they never showed up. Even when he said he rang them, which I can see was all just a lie. Everything that came out of his mouth was a lie.
I hear Grace scream from outside and my body is alert. I jump from the lounge and rush outside ready to face any danger. I stop when I see a dark brown wolf walking towards Grace. If it was any other wolf I would be screaming for Grace to run away, but the sight of Conner's wolf makes me calm down knowing Grace is say.
"Momma, daddy is a wolf." She bark causing Conner's wolf to yelp in excitement. Grace screams again running over and wrapping her small arms around Conner's neck. I hear the back door open and I see mum walking out wrapped up in a blanket.
We both walk over to the chairs under the shade watching Conner play with Grace. Grace thinks it is funny to pick up a stick and get Conner to fetch it. At first Conner just looked at the stick until Grace yelled fetch again so he trotted off to get the stick.
We hear a chuckle form the door way and I turn to see Felix, Ivy, Karen and Lucy.
"I never thought I would see the day Conner plays fetch." Felix yells loud enough for Conner to hear as we walks over to the seats laughing.
Conner drops the stick at Grace's feet licking the side of her face.
"Naughty daddy." She flicks Conner nose causing his wolf to sneeze. We all laugh as my Mum coughs.
"Take my hand." I do and I feel myself relax again.
"Maybe we should eat inside." I nod my head and Conner leads me inside before going back out to get us food.
The rest of the day we spend indoors but neither of us mined. Mum became so sick that she went to bed not long after lunch. The next few days so by without a hitch. I spend all the time I can with Mum even if she is unable to respond. Each day it breaks my heart to see Mum so sick, but I try to be strong for her.
Mum told me she is happy that I have Conner because I will need someone to be there for me when she passes. This caused me to be in hysterics all day at the thought of Mum leaving me.
Today if the fifth day I have been back at my old pack and I am staring to feel a little more comfortable. I am able to sleep and spend a bit longer out in the backyard. Grace is always with me and I make sure that she is never alone. We leave in two days and as much as I want to stay with mum I need to be back home where I feel safe.
