But it didn’t matter. She would take things one step at a time. Right now, the most important thing was to turn around the misfortune from her previous

life.

If she remembered correctly, Aiden would be away on a business trip for the next few days and wouldn’t be home next week either.

And her so–called father, Everett Clark, had his birthday party next week.

All of her misfortune in the previous life had started on this very night.

Valerie’s illness had come on quickly but left just as fast. By the next day, she was back to her usual self.

Aiden had been busy lately and didn’t stay home long before heading off for his trip–just like in her memories.

In a few days, it would be Everett’s birthday. Valerie’s feelings toward her foster father had always been complicated.

She was grateful to him for taking her in when she was thirteen and lost.

But she also resented him for pushing her out without a second thought when Valentina refused to fulfill the marriage contract with the Walker family.

But on paper, she was still the young lady of the Clark family. As a newly married daughter, it would be inappropriate to show up empty–handed at Everett’s birthday.

Valerie finished getting ready and left the house. Phillip, the driver, asked, “Mrs. Walker, where would you like to go?”

Leaning back in her seat, Valerie replied casually, “To Maverin Mall.” She closed her eyes and leaned back to rest.

Just as the car started moving, the sudden ring of a phone shattered the quiet. Valerie glanced down at the screen–it was Juliette calling.

Her eyes darkened slightly as she answered and put the call on speaker. “Hello?”

Juliette’s voice came through, sounding frantic, “Valerie, help! I need your help urgently!”

“What happened?”

“Help! It’s an emergency! Transfer 15 thousand dollars to my bank account right now, or I’m finished!”

Valerie immediately remembered this.

Juliette was the type to always try to show off, constantly comparing herself to others and surrounding herself with friends who spent freely.

In her previous life, around this time, Juliette had tried to play rich, joining a group of heirs and boasting that she would treat them.

In the end, the rich heirs took full advantage of her, leaving her with nothing.

Now, Juliette was acting desperate, but in reality, she had just eaten a meal and couldn’t afford to pay for it.

In her previous life, Valerie had been fooled, thinking something terrible had happened, and she rushed to send the money.

But this time, hearing the same words, Valerie simply raised an eyebrow, her tone mild as she asked, “What’s going on? Did something happen?”

Juliette looked over at her friends, who were laughing and partying nearby, then lowered her head, covering the phone with her hand. Her voice sounded as if the sky were falling. “Don’t ask. I’ll explain later. Valerie, we’re best friends, right? You’re the only one who can help me right now. I just need 15 thousand dollars. Please transfer it to my account now!”

Valerie kept the phone on speaker, and Phillip overheard the whole conversation. His brow furrowed in concern. He had a poor impression of Juliette.

Several times, Juliette had tried to find ways to be alone with Aiden, always acting overly sweet and considerate, but there was something off about her

-she was too fake.

But once she was away from Aiden, her true nature came to light.

Despite not having an impressive background herself, she looked down on Phillip–just a driver–and treated him with condescension, bossing him around as if he were beneath her.

Yet Valerie treated her like her best friend, hanging on to every word she said.

Now, without even specifying if it was a loan or not, that 15 thousand dollars was probably gone for good.

Phillip had already seen how this was going to play out. Glancing at the road ahead, he started heading toward the bank.

But to his surprise, Valerie’s reaction was completely unexpected. She seemed genuinely shocked and said, “What’s going on? What happened? Don’t worry… Oh, honestly, I can’t help you. I don’t have any money on me right now.”

This wasn’t the first time Juliette had asked for money, and every time before, she’d gotten it. This time, she was certain it was a done deal, but no one would have thought Valerie would say something like this.

Juliette was caught off guard. Looking at her friends still dancing and laughing, she anxiously said, “How can that be? When the Clark family married you off to Aiden, they gave you so much compensation. Doesn’t he give you money?”

Phillip couldn’t hide his disdain and muttered, ‘Shameless! Even if Mrs. Walker does have money, it is Mrs. Walker’s–not hers. Why should she give it to her?‘

Meanwhile, Valerie remained composed, almost resigned.

She replied, “It’s because of what happened the other day, when you took me to meet Nelson. After I was taken back, they confiscated everything. He’s afraid I’ll run away.”

Juliette was momentarily stunned.

This was her plan all along. She had even called Aiden herself, but she never imagined he’d confiscate Valerie’s money.

Juliette felt like she’d shot herself in the foot but wasn’t ready to give up. “Can’t you think of something?”

Valerie paused for a moment before saying, “I’ll try to borrow it from someone else. It might take some time though. Are you in that much of a hurry?”

Juliette quickly responded, “It’s urgent!”

“Alright, I’ll let you know as soon as I have any updates.”

With that, Valerie hung up the phone.

Juliette’s heart was pounding, and she was feeling frantic.
