Phillip had been waiting for Valerie to ask him to change the destination, but after a while, Valerie still hadn’t said anything. Eventually, Phillip couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke up first, “Mrs. Walker, should we head to the bank?”

Valerie opened her eyes, glanced at him, and responded with a question of her own, “Why would I need to go to the bank?”

Phillip was momentarily taken aback. “Doesn’t Miss Scott need some money? Aren’t you going to make a transfer?”

Valerie let out a soft laugh and asked again, “Just because she needs money, does that mean I have to give it to her? I’m not her father.”

Phillip was left speechless, unable to come up with a reply.

Before long, they arrived at the shopping mall. Valerie casually began browsing, completely unfazed by Juliette’s earlier impatience.

Phillip, who had come to carry her bags, couldn’t help but glance at her relaxed demeanor. He thought, ‘Mrs. Walker… she seems a bit different than

before.‘

Meanwhile, Juliette had been waiting for a long time and was growing more anxious by the minute.

As she saw her friends getting ready to leave, her heart began to race. She’d called Valerie several times, but no one answered,

“Come on, let’s go! Time for the next round!” someone called out.

Juliette’s heart skipped a beat.

The waiter, who had been watching from outside, walked over with a big smile and the bill. “Hello, your total is 13 thousand dollars. Could you please let me know who will be paying?”

Everyone in the group turned to look at Juliette.

Her face turned bright red, and she awkwardly muttered, “Just give me a minute, my money hasn’t come through yet.”

“No way?”

“What’s going on? Didn’t you just ask your dad for money? Didn’t you say he’s super rich, runs a huge company, and has luxury cars and multiple mansions? Why are you struggling with pocket money?”

“Seriously, so stingy! Hurry up and call him to get the money!”

Surrounded by disapproving looks, Juliette felt a pang of panic, but she forced herself to stay calm. “He’s in a meeting. Once he’s done, he’ll transfer the money.”

A girl raised an eyebrow and skeptically asked, “Really? You’re not trying to skip out on the bill, are you?”

Juliette’s fragile sense of dignity was immediately challenged. She snapped back, “What’s a few tens of thousands? Don’t compare your cheap attitude with mine. I wouldn’t dodge a bill over this small amount!”

At her sharp retort, people around her chimed in, “Kamila, you’re new to hanging out with us. You don’t know, Juliette’s family is really rich. Her dad’s an entrepreneur, just like yours.”

Juliette felt her heart tighten.

Sure enough, Kamila Porter crossed her arms and said, “Who is he, though? The business circle in Reano City is small; I’ve heard of most of the big entrepreneurs here. But I’ve never heard of a Scott family.”

Juliette’s heart suddenly sank. Just then, Valerie’s call came through.

Juliette breathed a sigh of relief, quickly stepping into a corner, speaking urgently and quietly into the phone, “Hello? What’s going on? I’m in a hurry for

the money!”

Valerie replied slowly, “I can’t think of anyone to borrow from at the moment. What have you done that has you so desperate? 15 thousand dollars isn’t exactly pocket change.”

Juliette’s parents passed away when she was young, and she was raised by her uncle and aunt in modest circumstances.

As a child, she had to wear hand–me–downs from her cousins.

It wasn’t until she grew older and Valerie was adopted–when the money started flowing in–that Juliette’s life began to improve.

Juliette was momentarily stumped by the question, and then, feeling both embarrassed and angry, snapped, “Are you interrogating me? I’m just asking for a little money. Is that really such a big deal?”

Valerie gave a cold smile, her eyes narrowing lazily. was just asking. Why are you reacting like this?”

Juliette faltered, glancing at her friends, most of whom were watching her. It felt like they were all waiting to see if she couldn’t pay, so they could make a spectacle of her.

Juliette couldn’t take the pressure anymore. She finally softened her tone. “Valerie, I’m not joking. I’m really desperate here.”

Valerie sighed as if resigned. “Alright, I’ll help you borrow it. 15 thousand dollars, right? But the interest will be pretty high.”

Juliette barely registered the mention of interest–after all, she’d never paid back any money she’d borrowed from Valerie before. She quickly replied, “I don’t care about that, just send me the money!”

Phillip clearly saw Valerie’s lips curl into a half–smile. Her eyes lowered, a cold glint flashing across them, as if she were a little wolf watching its prey walk into a trap.

Her voice, however, remained calm and gentle. “Okay then.”

For a moment, Phillip felt a shiver run through him, as if he saw a trace of the Aiden’s cold, calculating demeanor in her.

After hanging up, Valerie sent Phillip a series of details. “Since she’s in such a hurry, go ahead and lend her the 15 thousand dollars.”

Phillip was confused. “You want me to transfer it to her?”

He opened the WhatsApp and saw not only the account number but also an ID card and other personal information.

Behind him, Valerie’s soft voice drifted over. “Of course not. No one’s money comes easily. She owes it, so she’ll have to deal with it.”

Her voice was light, but suddenly, Phillip felt a chill run down his spine.

He thought, ‘Is it just my imagination? Why does it feel like Mrs. Walker is starting to resemble Aiden more and more?‘
