Ella could not help but grin. “Okay, I should not have said yes. That is too much information to be shared in the workplace. Speaking of work, where is Roberto? Did he leave without saying goodbye?”

Her boss opened his drawer and pulled out a yellow post it note. “He wrote this and put it on your table.”

“And you took it because?”

Javier narrowed his eyes infinitesimally. “Because I will personally hand it to you. Anyone else who goes to your office and reads this will begin to have negative thoughts about you. That is the last thing I want.”

She took the troublesome post-it note and began to read.

Dear Ella Darling,

I will return next week as per agreed. You can arrange the signing as planned.

In the meantime, I have one pressing matter.

How about having dinner at my hotel tonight?

No one needs to know. Especially not your nosy boyfriend.

Yours,

R. C.

“Thank you. I really do not need another drama or to be stalked by more paparazzis.” Once she finished reading it, she tore the post it note into little pieces that no longer readable. When she was about to dump it into the dustbin, Javier called her, prompting her from doing so.

“You should soak it in water then dump it into the toilet bowl,” he suggested.

“Why?” Ella asked incredulously, her eyebrows arched curiously.

“Because even when you tear it like that, the ink stays and people could still piece them together.” He raised one finger and smiled. “Before you tell me that no one will go through our trash, think again. I am more experienced in this. One of my brothers had once written a love letter back in high school but since he could not send it to the girl, he tore it to pieces just like you did and dumped it into the trashcan. The next morning, his love letter was printed on the front page of some magazines. So do trust me, some people are nosy enough to go through our garbage.”

“That is too much though. That’s violating people’s privacy.”

“In a way, yes. But again, they consider the trash as public property once you threw it out of your house.” He shrugged, giving her a sad look. “And we need to be careful while dealing with media and public. This is also another why we have our some seminars and other programs to share knowledge and train our talents so that they will not be easily manipulated and also to be careful.”

“I guess so. Well, I will soak and dump it into the toilet when I go to the bathroom later.”

“I am thinking since we will have that meeting with Phoenix Orientem Plc at noon, we should get early lunch then come back to get everything ready especially since we are playing the host. I will not tolerate any flaws. ” Javier glanced down at his watch and then looked up to meet her eyes again. “Are you ready for early lunch?”

Her stomach growled in response and her cheeks reddened underneath his affectionate gaze.

“Come on now,” said Javier as he rose to his feet and came to her side. “We need to feed you both.” He bent forward and placed a kiss on her belly. “What do you want for lunch?”

* * *

Ella was not sure whether it was caused by her pregnancy or her change of taste but lately she wanted to eat spicy food. It was as if she had just discovered chilli. Everything tasted good with it. Javier, on the other hand, was worried that she might get sick thus being her diet coach in a sense that he would prevent her from indulging herself in too much chilli.

For lunch, they had gone to a nearby Korean restaurant and Ella had ordered 제육볶음 (Jeyuk bokkeum or spicy pork BBQ) and 치즈 떡뽁이 (Cheese Tteokbokki or cheese spicy rice cakes) — which according to Javier was one too many spiciness for lunch.

“You can not eat so many spicy food, Miss Stanford.”

Ella frowned. “I know that I may get stomachache. But your daughter wants it and right now I live for her, I eat for her.”

Javier who was reaching for a glass of water ceased from moving and turned to her. His eyes were wide opened. “What?”

“Your baby likes spicy food.”

“What did you just say?”

“Your baby likes spicy food?” She tilted her head to one side.
