Satisfied with his reaction my wolf howled in my mind, being content that we had this effect on our mate. My curious wolf then pushed me to take a closer look at my mate, meaning checking him out.
Shyly my eyes brushed briefly over his body and I was almost able to make out his muscles through his shirt. I was so focused on starring at my handsome mate that I missed a conversation between my father and brother. Only my father's last words "Well played son" his booming laughter afterwards and Silas' confused expression grabbed my attention again.
What was going on?
My mother had shifted closer to my father as if seeking his protection, but my parents had apparently talked through their mind link as my mother now looked relieved.
What was that about? I had never seen my mother act like that.
Silas still wore a confused expression, but it was now directed at his friend and I. I did not know if it was because of his conversation with our father or because of his friend being my mate.
"Alpha", my mate adressed my father and bowed his head respectfully.
"I'm Levin Williams, future Alpha of the Crescent Moon pack.", his deep voice said and I finally knew the name of my mate.
Levin - meaning love.
It took me sometime to remember the meaning of my mate's name as it was not exactly common, but once I recalled it, I could not imagine a better name suited for my mate.
"I know who you are pup", my father haughtily replied and I winced quietly at his blatant word of disrespect.
However, my mate did not seem faced at all. His facial expression remained calm, but I could feel his hand, which was still in mine, tremble. Probably because of anger.
I squeezed his hand gently in order to calm him down and Levin shot me a thankful look as his trembling ceased. I felt delighted knowing I was able to help my mate.
"Come on in", my mother then said in a somewhat joyful voice and made her way inside.
Once inside my father used the opportunity to get Levin alone and asked him to join him in his office.
I felt more than I saw my mate's anxiety and wondered if his trembling hands before had not been a reaction to his anger, but to his worry.
My wolf howled excitedly in my head, because we had finally done something to make my mother proud. However, I could not share my wolf's joy, because I knew that it was nothing I had done intentionally or accomplished to become an Alpha's mate. It was sheer luke or fate.
"I hope you're prepared to rule the largest pack in the shifter's world", my mother continued and I was sure I could hear a warning in her voice.
I swallowed around the lump that had formed in my throat and nodded my head. How she could switch her mood so fast was a mystery to me.
"Yes mother, you taught me well."
"I hope so otherwise it's going to reflect bad on us and we don't want that, do we?"
Her mouth had formed into a sinister looking smile and my heart sped up because of the fear that had suddenly consumed me.
Somehow in my mind I had been excited to leave the Mercy pack, believing that once I was gone they could not harm me anymore. I could finally be free of them.
However, after hearing my mother's words I was not too sure about that anymore.
