Chapter 43
Keira’s Pov
Margret stands at my doorstep holding yet another plate of aromatic breakfast. Her fellow servant, an aging man probably in his late sixties, carries a golden bow adorned with beautiful engravings and filled with the most luscious fruits.
“Compliments the kings.” The old man announces while holding out the golden bow. “You’re to keep the bow as well.” He adds with the sweetest of smiles.
I already told the kings, or at least one of them, that I do not desire any more of their favours. Yet here are more of their gifts. Guess they are extremely desperate for that wish to be made.
It would be rude to send the old man back with the gifts. I am not arrogant as those that sent him.
I open bed.
the door wide for the man and Margaret to enter. They walk in and place the food and fruits on the small table by my
“Thank you.” I say and the old man surprisingly bows before leaving. Margaret remains.
“You still think they do not love you?” She questions. “Michael is much closer to the kings now and hears more. He says they would do anything for you if only you would allow it”
I cannot argue with her unless I am willing to tell her the truth. I cannot send her back with the food either as that would prove her point.
“Eat with me.” I request.
She nods and we both take our seats on the bed and place the tray of food between us.
“Your special food was prepared by the kings own chef. She is extremely good at mixing the spices. Margaret informs while taking a huge bite of the delicious breakfast.
It’s indeed more tasty than anything that has ever entered my mouth. The chef must be doing her best to impress the kings. Hopefully they do reward her.
“I don’t mean to take advantage of your newly found love, but I was wondering if you could get me a better job when you become queen.” Margaret asks after a while. “I have been feeling so wretched compared to my handsome mate. I have no doubt that people think I do not deserve him. She adds in a sad tone.
Why doesn’t she realise how lucky she is to have someone that loves her for who she is? Michael has never despised her for even for a second.
“Michael loves your sweet heart. He doesn’t care what job you do or what other people think.” I point.
I wish I could give her the job she wants though. She does deserve to be more than a simple servant.
“I know he loves me. But I still want to prove that I am just as capable as you. It’s shameful to remain the only human in this palace that hasn’t proved her worth for everyone to see. She responds.
She is no warrior yet she found true love when I couldn’t. When will she learn that it’s not always about what other people
think?
“If I ever get that kind of power I will definitely give you the job you want. But take note that it may never happen.” I say to avoid more argument.
She smiles delightfully. “You will definitely get that kind of power. She assures.
I don’t bother to tell her otherwise. It would be an endless argument in which she would definitely accuse me of intentionally refusing the love of the angel kings.
The sound of a gentle knock interrupts our meal. I assume that it’s Ezra and hurry to let him in. But it turns out to be Lisa, my former fellow servant. She now wears the common servant uniform of this palace.
I would turn her away if she wasn’t the one that saved my life that night. She made sure I wasn’t in the palace when the angel kings came searching for their wife’s missing ring. She saved me from being beheaded for a crime I had not committed,
“Yes. It’s really me.” I affirm. “Thank you for saving my life that night.
“You may come inside.” I open the door wider and she steps inside.
“Both Queen Lyna and her warrior mate sent me.” Lisa reveals in a humble tone,
“What did they say?” I ask.
“Rumulus said that his pack expects him to win the tournament. And though he loves you it would be disgraceful to lose to a woman. So he cannot go easy on you during the fight. He asked that you drop out of the fight so he doesn’t have to hurt you.”
She answers.
I scoff. Such idiotic male pride. If he actually loved me he would drop out of the fight so I can win without isn’t that what true love is about?
getting hury. Or
“Tell him that my pack expects me to win too. He should drop out of the fight so I do not have to beat him up and disgrace him. I firmly respond.
Margaret gazes at me with admiration. “I wish I had half of your courage.” She compliments.
“And what did your Queen send you to say?” I ask Lisa.
“She has promised Rumulus a huge reward if he kills you. She wanted you to know that she will dance with your head in the arena tomorrow after he cuts it. Lisa answers in a worried tone.
That would definitely be disgraceful. But it will only happen if I lose.
