Quickly turning my back, a man wearing a black shirt and jeans greeted me, his silver piercing reflected on the lights highlighting his well-formed facial features.
“Martini.”
“Aren’t you gonna hug me, Jada? It’s been too long since we met!” He exclaimed.
Rolling my eye from him, I went back to my seat and ask for another shot of Margarita.
“Woah, you haven’t changed. Still, the feisty Jada Turner I knew!” I felt his presence right next to the stool beside me.
“Shut the f*ck up Martini.” I glared at him.
“Hey give me some news, what happened? Why didn’t you show up after the race? Losing is part of a race Jada, there are still upcoming competitions! You don’t have to go here so you could move on, acceptance is the key. We’re still learning, and creating mistakes and failing is a part of it.”
I look at him unbelievably.
“Since when did you become a priest? Lecturing me isn’t a part of your job, and you don’t tell me what to do Martini. I don’t take commands from anyone.” I coldly uttered before drinking my wine straight.
“Fine, I’m sorry. I just want you to know that I have been looking for you for a month.” He shot back.
“And why is that?” I asked, raising my left eyebrow, making him more intimidated.
“Well, you know Russo? He’s been missing after the race. And I was concerned about you.” I can feel the sincerity from his voice but I remained stiff when I remembered that Russian. Should I tell Martini that Achilles Coleman killed him? No, I was living in peace here. I don’t want to be in trouble again by putting my nose into someone else business and opening that issue again, things will gone worst. But can I endure the conscience that’s killing me every night?
“Jada?”
Shifting my gaze at him shortly.
“When are you coming back to the Philippines?” He asked.
I shrugged.
“I don’t know. Maybe I’ll stay here for good.” I replied.
“Are you sure? How about your family?” he asked again.
I stop for a moment when he mentioned them.
“Family? Do I have one?” I asked him back as I look at him straight in his eyes.
“Kendra and Trinity right? They’re your family, you should go back because they are waiting for you. Don’t you miss your life in the Philippines?” He asked. I know he’s trying to lighten up the mood when he mentioned my family.
“There are other reasons why I am here Martini, and you won’t expect me to tell you that.”
I stand up and fixed my things.
“Where do you live? I’ll send you home, it’s getting late already.” He uttered and stand up as well.
“You know what Martini, just leave me alone okay? I can manage. I’m not Jada if I’m you’re thinking I am weak, and I can’t go home alone. I have a car as well, so please.” I tried my best not to be sound offensive, but it turns out wrong.
“O-okay, see you when I see you.” he awkwardly smiled and waved his hand. I felt a bit guilty but I set it aside. I don’t want to drag him into my miserable life, he’s a good friend.
“I’ll go first.”
I didn’t wait for him to respond and walk straight to the exit but I froze when a familiar masculine built took my attention from the left corner of my eye.
Even though I can only see his back from this distance, seems like I know who he was. As my heartbeat make its fast pace, I immediately went out of the club because my guts tell me that I have to do so before that familiar stranger turn around and see me.
I hope my speculations were wrong because if I’m right, then I’m doomed.

“Jada, are you even listening?” Taken aback by Henry’s voice, I shift my gaze at him.
“Ouch!” I flinched when I didn’t notice that the hot coffee accidentally slip on my hands and the broken mug was now scattered on the floor.
“Damn what happened?” Henry quickly took my hands and open the faucet, followed by a continous flow of water.
“You’re losing your focus, Jada. Look at your scorched hands!” Henry exclaimed. I glanced at him when I saw the rage in his eyes. Was it because I wasn’t doing my work properly?
“I’m sorry, I’ll pay for the coffee and the broken mug,” I replied instead and take back my hands from him, and pulled myself back to work.
“Look Jada, I was just worried. You’re too occupied and don’t worry about that coffee, it’s an accident. Just please take care of yourself.”
I nodded and half-smiled. He shouldn’t act like this.
“I think it will be better if you’ll work in the customer service today. I heard one of the waitresses didn’t show up so they were lacking an employee in the service area.”
“I’m fine here Henry.”
“No, go now Jada. I can handle the orders here.” He uttered full of finality, leaving me no choice but to go out of the kitchen area.
“Thank God Jada, please take orders from those men. They were too bossy and we were afraid to take their orders.” Alex quickly walk to me as soon as I went out.
“Oh alright, no worries.” I smiled back at her and went to the group of men.
I was also trained in customer service by Alex, though it wasn’t my role, in time of emergency like this, the training makes sense.
“Good morning Sir, I would like to take your orders.” I greeted them and showed up my perfect set of teeth because Alex told me that I look snobby if I don’t smile like this.
“Hi pretty lady, I didn’t think that there are waitresses as sexy and beautiful-looking as you. Look at that face, isn’t it perfection?” He asked his colleagues and the latter just nodded and laugh. Instead of taking it as a compliment I felt insulted. But I remained smiling like a robot even my blood was boiling inside.
“May I take your orders, Sir?” I repeated.
