Another week flew by. The girls and I had everything ready for the wedding, and my bachelorette party was scheduled for the following weekend. Erica and Emilia were very excited about it.

Henry had warned me earlier that he’d be home late because Patrick had organized a last–minute poker game. I thought about having dinner with my mom and Joaquin since I hadn’t seen them in days. With that in mind, I was about to pick up the phone to call them as I was getting ready to leave the office, but before I coul press the button, the company messenger stopped by my desk and handed me a card with a red rose.

This had to be Henry’s doing, I smiled at the thought. I opened the card and found a typed message:

“My goddess, I miss you. Meet me at the Savoy Hotel, room 1575, at seven o’clock. I have a surprise for you.”

Ah, my handsome man knew how much I loved surprises. What extravagant thing had he planned this time? Henry’s surprises were always elaborate, and I loved it. He was such a romantic, much to my delight.

I looked at the clock and realized I needed to hurry to avoid being late. I stopped by the bathroom, touched up my makeup, fixed my hair, and was ready to meet my handsome man.

I was already in the car heading to the hotel when my cell phone rang. I pulled it out of my purse and saw it was Enzo calling. I answered, thinking it would be nice to chat and distract myself from the anticipation of the surprise waiting for me.

“Hi, sweetie Enzo!” I was in high spirits.

“Auntie, beautiful! How are you all?”

“Very well. And you?”

“Craving a hamburger. Come on, auntie, you’ve been promising to take me to that vintage car diner for ages,” Enzo whined. “I called to invite you to go today.”

“Oh my, Enzo, you’re right. Every time we plan to go, something comes up and we don’t make it.”

“Exactly, and I think my little cousin is craving a sandwich too.” I had to laugh at Enzo’s attempt at emotional blackmail.

“How about tomorrow, Enzo? I can’t today.”

“And may I know why not today, auntie?”

“Because your uncle has organized a surprise for me. He sent me a rose with a note asking me to meet him at a hotel. You know how your uncle’s surprises are always extravagant, over–the–top, and very romantic.” I was sighing at my luck to have this man in my life.

“Ah, I know that well. Well, I can’t compete with his surprise, can Tomorrow then?”

“Tomorrow. You can even pick me up from work. Call Luna, Ivy, and Vince too. They’ll like that.”

“I’ll do that. Have a lovely evening. Kiss you, gorgeous!”

Thung up the phone with a smile. Enzo was quite a character. We arrived in front of the hotel with its imposing facade. Of course Henry would book a suite in a five–star hotel. The security guard got out and opened the car door for me.

“Michael, I’m meeting Henry, so you guys can head home,” I told the security guard as soon as I stepped out of the car.

“Are you sure, Miss Samantha? We can accompany you, what if Mr. Martin is running late?” Michael suggested.

“Actually, I’m the one who’s late.” I looked at my watch and saw I was already fifteen minutes past our meeting time. “You can go rest, I won’t need your services anymore today.”

“In that case, we thank you. Have an excellent evening. But if you need anything, just call and I’ll come back, any time.”

“Reynold, what are you doing here?,

I instinctively stepped backward when he moved toward me.

“Well, I came to surprise you. But you know, I didn’t think it would be this easy.” He went to the sideboard near the door and poured himself a whiskey.

“You’re a scumbag!” I marched toward the door, but it was locked.
