Patrick set up poker night at Rick’s place, wanting to cheer him up since Rick had been really down since Tess left town. I only agreed to come because of Rick; I couldn’t let down a friend who’d always helped me. But I didn’t plan to stay long – I was restless and desperate to get home to Samantha.
We were in the middle of a game, and I couldn’t concentrate. Something was bothering me, but I didn’t know what. Enzo kept calling, which was getting on my nerves. I let the first two calls go to voicemail, but by the third, I was worried the kid might be in trouble.
“What is it, Enzo?” I answered sharply.
“Hi, uncle. I’m fine, thanks for asking. How are you?” Enzo was always sarcastic when I answered in a bad mood.
“What do you want, kid? You sound fine.”
“Yeah, I am. But I’m curious about something.”
“Enzo, learn to get to the point, don’t beat around the bush.” I ran my hand across my forehead, feeling my patience wearing
thin.
“I just talked to Aunt Sam, and I’m curious. Since when do you plan a surprise for her without asking for help?” What was this kid talking about?
“Enzo, I don’t know what you’re talking about.‘
“Oh, uncle! Are you brain–dead?”
“Watch it, kid!”
“Uncle, I called Aunt Sam to invite her for a burger…” I didn’t let him finish – he’d tell me a thousand–page story if I let him.
“Enzo, stop going in circles, get to the point.”
“Uncle, Aunt Sam said she was going to meet you, that you’d planned a surprise for her and even sent her a rose with a card…” What nonsense was this kid talking about?
“What the hell, Enzo? What are you talking about?”
“Oh my god, uncle, wake up.” Enzo was impatient now. “I called Aunt Sam about fifteen minutes ago. She got a rose with a card saying she should meet you at a hotel because you had a surprise for her. I thought it was weird because you always recruit someone to help with your crazy, over–the–top ideas.”
“Enzo, did she tell you which hotel?”
“No! It wasn’t you who sent the rose, was it, uncle?” Enzo was worried now.
“No, it wasn’t me. Enzo, I’ll call you back, I need to find Samantha
I switched off the phone, trembling and desperate. The guys were already watching me intently. I called Sam’s security guard.
“Michael, where are you?” I asked as soon as he answered.
“At your house, sir. Miss Samantha dismissed us when we dropped her at the hotel. She said you were already waiting for her.”
“Damn it!” I slammed my fist on the desk. “Which hotel, Michael?
“The Savoy. Sir, I’m heading back there now.” Michael said, realizing the trap.
“Michael, did she mention the room number?”
$2–Chapter 151
“No, sir.”
Thung up the phone in desperation, already heading toward the door, but Flavian blocked my exit.
“We’ll help you, but we need to know what’s going on,” Flavian spoke with his detective’s demeanor.
“Samantha received a rose and a note telling her to meet me at the Savoy, saying I had a surprise for her.”
“Alright, let’s go there. I’ll send patrol cars too.”
I got in the car with Flavian, and we headed toward the hotel. He was driving like a madman.
“Flavian, we’re in a hurry, but we need to get there alive,” I said, gripping the car seat.

“Relax, Henry. Right now, we’re in patrol mode.” Flavian pressed button on the dashboard, and a siren started blaring as all vehicles moved aside to let us through.
When we stopped at the hotel entrance and I got out of that car, I felt my soul return to my body. I mentally thanked God for arriving there alive and that I could find my Samantha. We rushed to the reception, and before the receptionist could start with the whole “we can’t give out guest information” speech, Flavian flashed his badge in her face.
Fifteenth floor. An elevator had never been so slow. As if it were some cruel jokes, it stopped at every floor. When we finally reached our floor, we found the door at the end of the hallway. Flavian didn’t even hesitate; he just kicked the door down, gun in hand.
The scene I witnessed left me horrified. Reynold was on top of Samantha, and she was desperately fighting to break free. Flavian grabbed him by the collar and yanked him off Sam, striking him in the head with the butt of his gun.
