After examining Samantha, Molina gave her some medicine to help her relax. According to him, she would sleep until the next day. I left the bedroom door open with Cinnamon lying at the foot of the bed watching over her, then went downstairs to talk to the others.

“How is she, son?” My mother rushed toward me.

“Very shaken up, Mom. Alvaro gave her some medicine and she’s asleep. He said she’ll sleep until tomorrow,” I replied as my mother placed her hand of thy face.

“And how are you?” The concern was visible in my mother’s eyes.

“I don’t know how to tell you. There’s a mix of feelings inside me and none of them are good,” I spoke truthfully – I felt tired, exhausted, and I wanted to kill Reynold.

“Take it easy, man. That piece of trash is in jail and won’t be getting out anytime soon,” Flavian put his hand on my shoulder.

“Thanks, Flavian. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it in tine,” I thanked him for being a madman who drove like he had a death wish.

“No need to thank me,” he smiled. “But I need to ask, did she say anything?”

“She said he locked her in the room and tried to grab her. She pushed him away, and he threw her on the bed. When he was about to get on top of her, we arrived,” I said as I sat down.

“Thank goodness we got there in time,” Flavian sighed with relief.

Flavian took charge of explaining to everyone what had happened and clearing up any doubts.

“By the way, Enzo, how did you notice something was wrong?” Flavian asked.

“Actually, I thought it was strange that Uncle Henry didn’t ask for help. I got curious and wanted to know what he had done. I was hoping he would tell me what the surprise was,” Enzo said, head down.

“Enzo, you should consider a career in law enforcement – you’ve got good instincts,” Flavian complimented.

“Oh please, Detective, my brother is a blabbermouth. No investigation would work because he’d tell everything to everyone. He should think about being a gossip columnist instead,” Clara said, making everyone laugh.

“Enzo, it’s thanks to you we found her in time. I owe you one,” I smiled at my nephew, who had sad eyes.

“Man, uncle, I can’t believe that monster shares our blood,” Enzo tried to control his tears, and I knew exactly how he felt.

“Don’t think about that, dear!” My mother stroked his head.

“Henry, my father asked me to let you know he’s already called my uncle, and they’re going to make Reynold’s life very difficult from now on. He said he’s at your disposal for anything,” Ivy relayed the message with all delicacy.

“Thank you, Ivy. That’s very good,” I replied, but I could feel the tension draining away as exhaustion took over my body.

Maria came into the living room and told me she had prepared a meal for everyone. We sat in the dining room and ate while making random conversation, everyone trying to lighten the mood and make me laugh. I had wonderful people around me, I needed to hold onto that and forget about Reynold’s detestable existence.

“Henry, now go to bed with Sam and rest. We’re all leaving, and tomorrow, when Sam’s feeling up to it, you call us and we’ll come visit her,” Melissa started laying down the rules, already making everyone say their goodbyes and head home.

“Uncle, can I stay?” Enzo asked, full of hope.

“Me too, uncle. We can cheer up Aunt Sam, you know.” Clara already had a strategy.
