S2–Chapter 166
Flavian’s POV
I had to say, this raid on Pipote Hill was only supposed to serve the arrest warrants for homicide, but it turned into a complete mess. Three drug dealers dead and two cops wounded, all because they wouldn’t let us in. It was all because of that punk Sandro who decided to set up a drug spot here. I only decided to serve these warrants personally snice one of them was Sandro’s drug spot manager, and I wanted information about this Romulus guy.
At least no civilians were hit. People keep talking about stray bullets, but there was no such thing – there are only bullets that find their targets, and innocent people became those targets, which really upsets me. But fortunately, this time no innocent civilians were shot. Though one of the subjects named in the warrants died – he was one of Sandro’s soldiers. We arrested the other two. That was six fewer criminals on the streets.
“Let’s move out, team!” called the military police sergeant who came to support us. “Detective, I think we’re done here for today. The hearse just picked up the deceased, and the ambulances have taken away the wounded.” He approached, watching his men escorting the suspects caught in the act. (1
“We’re done here, Sergeant, but there’ll be plenty of work at narcotics today,” I smiled at him.
“True, true. The bad thing is my patrol cars will be tied up there until all the procedures with the arrestees are done. My people are already tired,” the sergeant lamented.
I nødded to him and pulled out my cell phone that was ringing in my pants pocket.
“Moreno speaking,” I answered without checking who it was. “Hey Henry, from your voice, we’ve got trouble.” I listened to Henry speaking frantically. It was bad news – Samantha had gone to meet Romulus without her security detail. “Calm down, man, I’m in the field, on an operation at Pipote. I’ll ask Bonfim to track Romulus’s cell phone location. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.”
I called Bonfim and asked for the location, and to my surprise, the criminal was right here on Pipote Hill. Ah, it was the day I would catch this scumbag.
“Sergeant!” I approached the patrol car. “Can you back me up for one more arrest? I just found out the perp is here on the hill.” “Oh! Another one for the slammer,” the sergeant got out of the car “But could he already be among those we arrested?” “Could be, I don’t know what he looks like. I’ll ask for a photo.” I called Bonfim, who sent a photo to my cell phone. I showed it to the sergeant, and he smiled.
“Detective, we won’t even need to go up the hill again. That one’s among those we collected today,” the sergeant was certain.
“Is he in the patrol car?” I asked, thinking it was quite a coincidence.
“No way! He’s in the hearse,” the sergeant stated without hesitation.
“Is it possible? I have to see this.” I said and walked towards the hearse driver. “Do you have identification for the bodies collected?”
“Yes, sir, detective. Two of them were identified by their mothers. Such a sad thing. These boys get into this life, and then their mothers are left crying.” The driver lamented.
“And the third one?” I asked impatiently.
“He had documents in his pocket.” The driver grabbed the bag with the deceased’s belongings and documents from inside the van. “Here. These two phones were with him too.”
I took a good look, and it was Romulus’s ID. This would be an enormous coincidence. I needed to see the body with my own eyes.
“Open it up, I want to see the body.” I ordered, and the driver went to open the back of the vehicle, pulled out a drawer, and opened the black bag.

I looked at the deceased and checked the photo on my phone again. If someone had told me, I wouldn’t have believed it, seeing it, I still couldn’t believe it. This was an unbelievable coincidence. We were looking for the guy, and he dies in an operation where we weren’t expecting to find him. This was better than we could have ordered.
“Okay, you can take him.” I looked to the side, and the sergeant was observing the scene.
“What are the odds of something like this happening?” He was as amazed as I was.
“Minimal, Sergeant. But this one won’t be missed.” I commented and shook the sergeant’s hand, thanking him for the military police support.
I got into the patrol car and returned to the police station. I wasn’t in a hurry to call Henry, as I knew Samantha was safe and they had found her before she could meet with Romulus. I arrived at the station, told Bonfim what happened, and he was as surprised as I was. Then I called Henry; I wanted Sam to identify the body to be absolutely and unquestionably certain it wasn’t just someone who looked very similar.
“Henry, my friend, I have news that I think will make you breathe easier.” I said when he answered the phone.
“Flavian, right now I’m relieved just seeing Sam safe. She just arrived here at the office.” Henry was calmer now. “Did you arrest Romulus?”
“Well, it didn’t exactly happen like that. Romulus is dead,” I said, and before he could ask, I explained what happened. “That’s it he was caught in the shootout at Pipote Hill and died in the confrontation. But I’d really like you to bring Sam to identify the body because it’s too much of a coincidence, and I don’t want to declare a lookalike dead.”
“I understand. We’re on our way, Flavian. Thanks!” We said goodbye, and I looked at Bonfim sitting across from me.
