Samantha and I were lying face to face, just looking at each other and smiling. I didn’t need anything else in life; simply being with her was enough. After a chaotic afternoon and night, we resolved our problems, reconnected, made love slowly and passionately, and declared ourselves to each other, leaving no room for uncertainty.

“As much as I hate to say it, we need to get out of bed. We need to get ready for the wedding,” I said, remembering that she would need time for makeup, hair, and all those things that made women take forever to get ready, always running late.

“No, we don’t,” she said calmly and serenely. My heart raced.

“No, no, no, Samantha. You didn’t cancel this wedding.” I put my hands on my face in frustration. “I’ll drag you to the first church I find and have a priest make you my wife.” I sat up in bed, preparing for a battle I wasn’t going to lose, but she was laughing.

“My handsome, I didn’t cancel it, just postponed it until tomorrow and Hebe is sorting everything out with Melissa,” she said very calmly.

“Just postponed.” I repeated and let out a breath of relief. “But why did you postpone it?”

“Because I don’t want to start my wedding day with a problem. And today didn’t start well.”

“No, it really didn’t.”

“But we need to get out of bed because your son and I are hungry, and you know what happens when I get hungry.” She smiled

at me.

“Oh no, let’s hurry because I can’t handle any more fury attacks for at least a month.” I joked and picked her up, heading to the

bathroom.

Two things that put Samantha in a terrible mood were sleepiness and hunger. When she felt either of these, she would get grumpy and upset. I learned this pretty quickly, so I did everything possible to prevent her from getting hungry or having to stay awake when she was sleepy.

After a shower and some kisses, we were ready to return to the world. We went downstairs hand in hand, and when we reached the living room, we heard Patrick shout.

“Here come the bride and grooom!” Patrick shouted festively, and everyone else applauded and made plenty of noise. When they calmed down, Patrick had the courage that others lacked. “So, couple, problems solved? Will we have wedding cake and chocolates?”

“Yes, Patrick, we’ll have cake and chocolates,” Samantha laughed as she answered.

“Excellent, because that’s the only reason I came,” Patrick joked.

Samantha let go of my hand and went to Joaquin, hugging him affectionately, and he hugged her back.

“Thank you for holding my hand when I was afraid,” she thanked him.

“That’s what a father does, daughter.” Joaquin was emotional. Despite being her stepfather, it was very obvious that he loved her like a daughter.

“I’m here!” Rick burst through the door. “What did I miss?” He looked anxiously at all of us.

“Lots of drama and a happy ending,” Patrick took charge of answering with his usual jokes. “Then I didn’t miss anything. But I’m starving.” Rick clapped his hands together.

“That makes two of us, Rick,” Samantha smiled at him, and we went to the kitchen, led by Hebe who served us a delicious lunch. We started eating and I noticed Samantha’s gaze on me. She was waiting for me to ask about Isabella, but I wasn’t going to fall

into that frap. I wouldn’t give her a reason to get angry again.

“Aren’t you going to ask, Henry?” Samantha couldn’t hold back and asked me seriously. Playing dumb would be the best

strategy.

“Ask what, my goddess?” I said while continuing to eat as if 1 really didn’t know what she was talking about. She took a deep

breath.

“Coward!” she said to me, and Rick started laughing. I kept playing dumb. In this case, I really was a coward – I wasn’t willing to give her any reason, no matter how silly, to fight with me again.

“My goddess, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Maybe hunger is affecting your brain. Let’s eat so you’ll feel better.” I took a french fry and put it in her mouth affectionately. Rick was laughing like an idiot.

We finished eating while making small talk, but I could feel Samantha’s eyes darting between Rick and me. Finally, after dessert, she couldn’t take it anymore.

“Oh, enough! Rick, how’s that disturbed woman doing?” Samantha stared at Rick.

“Let’s go to the living room so I can tell everyone at once. I know if don’t, I’ll spend the day being cornered by everyone asking the same thing.” Rick got serious, and it was clear the news wasn’t good.

When we got to the living room, everyone was gathered there, as if they were waiting for news in a waiting room. Rick sighed and sat down.

“I know everyone wants to know, so here it is.” Rick rested his ankle on his opposite knee. “Isabella arrived at the hospital in critical condition. She had internal injuries and needed surgery. Everything went well, and she’s under observation with a good prognosis. However, she broke both legs, which also had to be realigned surgically. Since they were torn up by the car’s metal, the doctor said she’ll have large scars on both legs. And she suffered a serious facial injury – the doctor had to reconstruct her jaw, and because of the cuts from the windshield glass, she’ll have a large scar on one side of her face and smaller ones all over.”

“Will her face be deformed?” my mother asked, shocked.

“Yes, it will. And to be honest, from what I saw, it’s going to look horrible.” Rick looked at the floor.

“How tragic!” Hebe made a face.

“It’s even worse,” Flavian commented. “I was going to wait to talk about this later, to not ruin the wedding mood, but with everything that’s happened, I’ll just say it now.”

“What is it now, Flavian?” I asked, already expecting something bad.
