Samantha’s POV

It was late afternoon. I was sitting by the pool, talking with my mother and grandmother about everything that had happened in the last two days and listening to their advice, especially their recommendation that I should stop trying to guess what people were feeling or thinking and simply ask them directly.

“If you had asked and listened to Henry, you could have saved yourself a night of crying,” my mother pointed out.

“Sweetie, you’re starting a family. You need to trust the person by your side. If you enter this marriage without trusting him, it won’t work out. Listen to grandma,” my grandmother spoke more gently.

“I won’t make the same mistake again, “I said, feeling embarrassed for acting without thinking.

“Ladies!” Henry approached with a handsome smile and extended his hand towards me. “May I steal this beautiful lady from you?”

“She’s all yours, dear,” my mother smiled. “I’m glad you’re the one dealing with her tantrums now.”

“Mom! I don’t throw tantrums,” I protested, and my mother let out a hearty laugh.

“Sometimes you do,” my grandmother backed her up, making Henry and my mother laugh even more.

“Come on, my little drama queen, let’s take a walk on the beach,” Henry kissed my cheek and pulled me by the hand.

We walked embraced along the beach, talking and feeling the seawater gently touch our bare feet, coming and going. Almost an hour later, when we entered the house laughing and making plans for after the wedding, I froze seeing everyone gathered and that man sitting there, accompanied by two women I despised, wearing a smile like he owned the world.

Henry looked at me confused, seeing my expression drop and my eyes spark. But what was this guy doing here? And why were these two here? Actually, how did he know? I looked at my mother who shook her head no.

“Ah, my little daughter, good thing you’re here,” my father stood up and came towards me,

“I’m not your little daughter!” I responded coldly.

“Samantha, what is this? Be polite to your father,” his venomous wife scolded me. How dare she?

“What are you doing here?” I aske

directly at the man standing in front of me.

Yes, he was my biological father, but he chose not to be present in my life. I felt no affection for this man. He never meant anything to me. He never wanted to be anything in my life. I didn’t understand what he was doing here now.

“Samantha, you’re getting married, I’m your father, I came to walk you down the aisle. Even though I didn’t receive an invitation, which I’m sure your mother didn’t let you send.” He was such a hypocrite.

“My mother has nothing to do with this. I didn’t send it because I didn’t want to. You’re not my father, you never wanted to be. Wait for your wife’s daughter to get married and walk her down the aisle.” I said, feeling the anger growing inside me.

It was always like this – he never missed an opportunity to hurt my mother and only remembered he was my father when it was convenient for him.

“Samantha, you don’t need to be jealous of your sister. There’s room for both of you in my heart.” He spoke in a gentle voice, but I knew he was putting on an act to move the people present.

“Don’t be ridiculous. She’s not my sister, she’s not even your daughter, and even if she were, you’re not my father, I already told you.” I repeated firmly. “Now get out of here, go back where you came from and don’t look for me anymore, I’ve told you this before.”

“Samantha, daughter, let go of this grudge.” He was going to insist. Why was he being so persistent? “I was so happy when I heard about your wedding!”
