Samantha’s POV

My fingers were already itching to throw those party crashers out, but my father’s ridiculous and clueless stepdaughter Milena decided to provoke me. That was when I completely forgot where I was.

“Stop putting on a show, you wobbly cow! You’ve always loved attention. How annoying! Come on, introduce your family to your fiancé and his family,” Milena, my father’s stepdaughter, decided to speak up. She walked over to Henry and put her hand with those long fingers on his chest. My blood boiled, and I saw red; my patience had run out. I grabbed Milena by the hair, showing no mercy.

“Melissa, help me here,” I called to Melissa, who handed the popcorn to Fred and came more than happy to help.

When Dora, my father’s wife, came at me, Melissa grabbed her hair and held her back.

“Don’t even think about it, you old hag!” Melissa snapped at her, gripping her hair. “Come on, Sam, let’s drag these two’s faces on the asphalt.”

“Leave it to me to handle this gentleman here,” I heard Joaquin’s voice approaching.

We dragged the two of them out by their hair and threw them into the street. Joaquin came right behind us, bringing that man along with rough shoves.

“You’re out of control! Look what you did, Samantha, you ruined my dress!” Milena complained.

“Look what you did, Milena, you were born! Go to hell! And learn to never show up around me again.” I was stressed, and that wasn’t good for my child.

I turned around and found Joaquin pushing Neil onto the street. Joaquin hated him as much as I did. Neil was my biological father, but he was never my real father, always treating my mother terribly, and I had removed him from my life long ago.

I was sure he only showed up here to provoke my mother and try to take advantage of my wedding. He had a worthless security company and certainly saw Henry as an opportunity to profit, but I wouldn’t allow it.

“I’m telling you for the last time,” I stopped in front of him and stared him down. “Disappear from my life with your family. You’re not my father. And as you know, I removed your name from my birth certificate a long time ago.”

“Samantha, daughter, what is this, don’t be like that,” Neil complained with complete fakeness.

“Enough pretending! I removed your name from my birth certificate, but it seems that wasn’t enough. Do I need to get a restraining order to keep you away from me? Because I’ll do it and send you to jail!” I said, feeling disgust rise in my throat.

“No, Samantha, it’s clear. You won’t see me again.” Neil straightened his jacket and turned his back on me, going to help the two women thrown in the street.

Henry hugged me and we went back inside the house. I was exhausted. What else could possibly happen? Actually, there was one thing left, and I would do it right now. I approached Joaquin who, as soon as he came in, went to hug my mother.

“Joaquin.” I called him, feeling a bit insecure. I had something to tell him that I thought I didn’t need to say, but after what happened, I had to make everything crystal clear.

“Yes, sweetheart!” He looked at me with his usual affection, though slightly uncertain. “I hope you’re not upset that I got involved.”

“But isn’t that what a father does? Gets involved to protect his daughter?” I asked hesitantly and received a huge smile in

response.

“Yes, daughter, that’s what a father does. And I’ll always protect you, even when you’re married.” He looked at me with

affection and placed his hand on my face.

“I never said it because I always thought it wasn’t necessary, always thought you knew.” I started speaking like an embarrassed child who needed to express emotion. “But you’re the only father Ive ever known, you know you’re a father to me, don’t you?”

“Daughter, I’ve felt like your father since I met you as a thirteen–year–old teenager, full of life’s uncertainties, and watched you bloom into this beautiful, strong woman who makes me so proud. Joaquin looked at me with emotion. “But it’s wonderful to hear you acknowledge me as your father because I’ve recognized you as my daughter for a long time.”
