Sa–Chapter 178
Henry’s POV
The days had been very difficult for Samantha. She was going through a lot, and being pregnant made her emotions run high. Isabella’s attempt to kill her the day before, and her thinking that had discovered I loved Isabella, which was ridiculous, had affected her deeply. It had been a gloomy night and a long day until she finally calmed down.
I took her for a walk on the beach, just to admire the place and spend some quiet time together; she was finally relaxing. That was until we got home and found those three the father, the stepmother, and the stepdaughter – sitting there as if they were royalty, like important guests, but they were just unwanted intruders. Samantha trembled with anger when she saw them, I felt her body stiffen under my arms and the hatred emanating from her
She had told me so many stories about that man who, according to her, was an opportunistic freeloader who never wanted her as a daughter and had suggested to her mother to get an abortion when she got pregnant. Stories about all the times he had rejected her, how every time he approached her, his only interest was to cause pain to Pearl, simply because he took pleasure in making her suffer. I felt contempt for him without even knowing him.
But as he kept talking and letting it show that he was there interested in what advantages he could get from my marriage, I hated him. I hated him for making Sam nervous again, hated him for being so petty, and on top of that, coming here with these two clueless women.
Of course, Sam wouldn’t take any nonsense and put all three in their place, with help from Mel and Joaquin, making it clear they weren’t welcome and weren’t part of her life.
The best part was seeing her finally acknowledging Joaquin as her father because I had always said he was her real dad since he took care of her and protected her. He was present and always had his arms open to receive and support her. In the end, everything had turned out well.
To minimize Samantha’s stress as much as possible, my sister and Melissa had been working double–time all day, rescheduling the wedding for the following day. They both worked hard to rearrange everything and even called each guest to apologize and inform them of the date change, citing technical problems with the organization. Even with all that work, they still had time to plan something light and fun for the evening so we could relax – they came up with a beach luau, complete with a bonfire, flower leis, music, and light snacks.
When night fell, we all went to the beach and enjoyed that peaceful moment. At some point, Joaquin pulled me aside, wanting to speak with me privately.
“Henry, I want to ask for your help with something,” Joaquin seemed anxious.
“Of course, Joaquin, anything you want,” I replied cheerfully, patting him on the back.
Joaquin’s request surprised me. It was something quite obvious, yet unexpected, and he needed my help because I knew the right people.
“What do you think, Henry?” Joaquin asked, full of anticipation.
“I think it’s something very important, and we’ll need more help,” I replied with a smile. “Hebe, could you come here for a minute?”
“What’s up, little brother?” Hebe hugged me as she approached. “Oh, Joaquin, I was so touched seeing you and Sam today! It was so beautiful!”
“Oh, dear, Samantha is pure gold, it’s impossible not to love her, as you know. I can’t understand how that man could be so awful to her,” Joaquin lamented.
“Yeah, from what I know, he’s always looked down on her,” Hebe sighed. “But she has you, who is an honorable and wonderful man, and that’s what matters.” Joaquin flashed a proud smile.
“That’s why I called you. We need to organize a very special breakfast tomorrow, and I’d like it to be at sunrise,” I started sharing my idea with my sister, noticing Joaquin’s approving look
