S3–Chapter 2
Flavian’s POV
When Detective Bonfim suggested I transfer to the specialized unit in Paradise Port to work alongside him, I never imagined he’d actually manage to get my transfer approved. It was a highly sought–after precinct, with many detectives wanting to work. there, and I might not have been the most qualified.
But Bonfim got my transfer approved in the snap of a finger, or rather, with just one phone call. I was thrilled because, without even trying, he had solved several of my problems. I would get promoted, move to a bigger city, work at a specialized precinct where I’d have plenty of operational work just the way I liked it, and get some distance from my parents‘ interference. This job opportunity fell right into my lap.
I would only return to Bellwood to handle some paperwork before moving to Paradise Port for good. I was already at the airport waiting for my flight to be cleared for takeoff when I decided to call Patrick to find out who that woman was that I saw at Miller’s
company.
“Flavian, my friend! Don’t tell me you’ve already rushed back to Bellwood. I’m waiting to have a drink with you,” Patrick answered enthusiastically.
“I’m at the airport, the plane takes off soon. We’ll have to save that drink for the weekend, buddy,” I replied cheerfully.
“Why such a rush to get back to Bellwood? Stay here for a few days, I’m sure you can get some time off.”
“I probably could, Patrick, but I need to go to Bellwood to pack my things. I’ve just been transferred here to Paradise Port, I’m going to work with Detective Bonfim at the specialized unit.”
“You’re kidding!” Patrick said excitedly. “You’re going to live here? That’s fantastic, Flavian! Finally getting out from under
mommy’s wing.”
Patrick knew all about my family drama, knew how they pressured me and meddled in my life. He was always telling me I should leave Bellwood so they’d understand I wasn’t a child anymore and had no right trying to manipulate me.
“Yeah, and I’m not even going to tell them until after I move. I don’t want my father pulling strings to try to ruin my career,” I explained, knowing my father had many connections.
“You’re doing the right thing. When are you moving?”
“This weekend. I’m just going to clear up my pending cases at the precinct there and pack my bags. I’m not even bringing furniture, just clothes, so my parents can’t interfere. I’ll sort everything out here.”
“Perfect, Flavian, you can stay at my place. It’s going to be fun.”
“Won’t I be in your way, Patrick?”
“No way, don’t even think about going to a hotel. My house is your house. What day are you arriving?”
“On Sunday.”
“I’ll plan something for us to do.”
“Cool. Patrick, there’s one more thing I want to ask you. That girl who works at the Miller reception, a petite one, who is she?
“Petite? Are you talking about Manu?” Patrick seemed surprised.
“Manu. The one with brown eyes and golden highlights in her hair” I explained to avoid any doubt.
“Yes, that’s Manu. Manuela. She actually works with Henry; she was just helping us out at the company. Why do you ask?” Patrick was always curious.
“I found her interesting. She looks quite young.”
“Interesting?” Patrick laughed. “Flavian, I know you, you never find women ‘interesting‘. What happened?”

“Nothing happened. She didn’t even look my way. But I found Man incredibly beautiful, I don’t know, something about her caught my attention.”
“Oh, I’ve seen this before. Flavian, Manu is eighteen, she’s friends with the girls and a really nice young lady. So my friend, if you’re interested in her, you’ll have to take it seriously, because these girls look out for each other. But I know she’s not exactly your type, so I’m confused.”
“Yeah, she’s not. Petite, young, normally I wouldn’t even look at her, but I can’t explain it, I’m just enchanted by her. Could you introduce me to Manu? Maybe I’ll get this crazy idea out of my head.” I was thinking about what Patrick said about taking things seriously.
“I can, but you need to know she’s part of the girls‘ squad, they’re not into casual dating.”
“Then introduce us. I’m really interested in her, she has something special. Man, this little one is in my head in such a crazy way.

“Oh, was it love at first sight, detective?” Patrick asked mockingly, but of course it wasn’t that, it was just interest.
“Come on, Patrick! I have to go, the plane’s about to take off.”
I spent the journey and the rest of the night thinking about Manuela and the question Patrick had asked me. Was it love at first sight? But I did not believe in that love at first sight nonsense. That was just romantic novel foolishness. However, I tossed and turned all night in bed, with that girl on my mind and anxiety eating me up inside about seeing her again.
The next day, I was tired and in a bad mood. I went to the police station early and focused on work. I was just finishing up my pending cases, thinking about maybe going to Paradise Port the next day, just to find a way to see that little one, when my phone rang and it was Patrick.
“Wow! You can’t stay away from me now.” I teased him when I answered.
“Oh yeah, I’m anxious to see you.” Patrick laughed, playing along. ‘Alexander wants to talk to you.”
