Apprehended By My Mate novel Chapter 4

"Come out of the dark, so I can see who was stealing from me." I stay where I am and I watch as he flicks his fingers forward as Jason comes back in and drags me from the corner I was hiding in. I watch the alpha raise his hand but the moment he sees me on my knees clutching Grace tightly to me his face softens and he drops his hand.

"Is this a joke?" He looks at Jason with disgust and anger.

"I caught her stealing food from us." Jason challenges while the alpha growls at him.

"Look at her. She is a young mother, does she look like she was going to attack us?" The alpha raises an eyebrow at him and Jason shakes his head. "Get out of my sight." He growls as Jason all but runs out of the room. There is silence around us, but you could cut the tension with a knife. I watch the alpha drop to my eye level and reach out for me. I flinch away from him and start to scramble back.

"Please don't hurt her. Please. You can kill me, but please don't hurt her." I sob into Grace's hair who is quiet looking at me with her big brown eyes. Her eyes were questioning what was wrong and I shook my head at her. I didn't look at the alpha again as I had all my focus on Grace telling her how much I love her with my eyes.

"I am not going to hurt you or your child. How about you tell me your names." I sit in silence. Silence is always the best, if they didn't get a reaction out of you they would lose interest and move on. I learnt this a long time ago.

"How about you tell me what pack you were from?" He ask while I keep my head down and close my eyes. I can feel him close to me making be become catastrophic. I can feel the walls coming in on us making my breathing come out in short sharp breaths. I can feel the alpha raising his hand and I know what will come next.

The battle going on inside my head wasn't helping, when Grace started to cry again.

"Shhhh its ok baby. Mummy is here." I looked at my daughter and made the final decision. I walk over to the fire and placed the fire poker inside the flame. I walked back to my silent daughter who was content with silence after she got fed. I picked up the fire poker and glanced at the red tip. I found a mirror and looked at the mark that Derek had given me.

Tears slipped down my face as I bought the hot fire poker onto my mark, burning it away so he couldn't track me. I felt my canines come through as I bit my lip whimpering in silence as the bond broke. After it was done I sank to the floor crying in pain of burning away my mark. It was for her. I remind myself. Remembering that my daughter was fast asleep I picked her up and ran into the night getting as far away from this place, before Grace and I collapsed into silence.
