Chapter 39
Keira’s Pov
Judging from the sweat that has soaked his shirt he must have been training vigorously. I thought that he would be confident about winning the fight against me. But it doesn’t seem so
“Your eyes look like of a fairly princess.” He observes, halting too close
I left my sword in my room, which means I am defenceless against his strength. I remember that his mate queen Lyna had
offered him a huge reward if he kills me. But I doubt that he chose to do it here.
“What do you want?” I ask.
“I just heard that you’re the mate of the angel kings. That they rejected you back when you were a lowly servant” He says.
I shrug my shoulders. I do not need to confirm what everyone already knows. I was feeling awful enough even before he
arrived.
“They must be wanting you back now. But we both know that they did not just start loving you.” He says and I sense a hint of bitterness in his voice just like yesterday.
He is right of course. The angel kings need me. But they do not love me.
I stay silent, waiting for Rumulus to state his intent. He carries on.
“I imagine they will use their wealth to win you back. But there is something they haven’t told you.”
“What?” Lask, my curiosity piqued
“The real reason they want you and not their idiotic queen is because they are in possession of something incredibly powerful and they need your help to use it” He answers.
Sounds like the angel Kings‘ Dreamstone is no longer a secret. Or what else would he be speaking of
“That sounds like an interesting rumour.” I say, pretending I know nothing of what he is speaking of
“So
they haven’t told you.” He shakes shakes his head. “It may sound ridiculous but my foolish mate told me that they have an actual Dreamstone. It is the reason they wanted a virtuous queen. To make wishes for them.” He adds, observing my face for Teaction.
Of course it’s Queen Lyna that told him. Who else would be so stupid? I thought that the angel kings had not told her, but how else would she know?
“I appreciate your concern. Thank you for the information,” I say.
Rumulus steps closer until he is standing inches from me. “Join me. I have the perfect plan to steal Dreamstone. You and I can leave this kingdom and go make the wisest of wishes with the Dreamstone.” He urges.
I shake my head. The angel kings are not perfect, but Rumulus and his mate are the embodiments of evil. Dreamstone should never land in their hands. Not to mention that stealing Dreamstone would cause this kingdom to be invaded faster than not making the wish to help my mates retain their powers.
“Thank you for the offer, but I do not trust you. I boldly say
“What?!” Rumulus exclaims and instinctively grabs my arm. “I care about you more than those arrogant angels do. Don’t you see what we can accomplish together once we have dreamstone?”
“I would no longer be of pure heart if I take part in stealing what rightfully belongs to the angel kings. You and your mate need to learn a few things about virtue” I answer, trying to pull my hand out of his grasp. But he tightens his grip to a point of causing me dull pain..
“Only queen Lyna will be involved in stealing, not you. Just promise to me that you will leave with me. He demands
“That’s an act of treachery, idiot. Let go of my hand or I will have to break your neck!” I warn despite knowing that it impossible to do so without a weapon. He is huge and a werewolf.
Being human sucks. Because now I feel afraid that I might have to fight him and I will lose.
“I would be more afraid if you had your sword.” He says. “After all the misery the kings have caused you, don’t you think that turning against them would be justified?”
“Wouldn’t you rather we share a kiss?” He mutters, taking hold of my other arm. I turn my head away as he starts to lean in.
“You should have kneed the creep between the legs.” The angel that hauled him finally speaks.
“I had it under control. I say even though I am not sure how that would have ended.
“That’s not how it seemed. But with your courage locked up in the palace cells for disturbing you.”
I imagine you thought otherwise.” “The angel responds. “I can have him
I would consider the offer if it wasn’t him offering it.
Last time you offered me a favour my hand ended up on a mysterious stone that could have burned me to death.” I remind.
He raises an eyebrow as if confused. “I don’t remember that. I am guessing that it was my brother Conrad who gave you that terrific adventure.” He responds.
It becomes my turn to raise an eyebrow. He is not Conrad? I look at his dark blue coat once again to confirm that the adornments on it’s edges are actually made of gold.
“People do not know it but I do wear gold sometimes. He reveals
I wonder how many times I have mistook one for the other.
“Does your brother Conrad wear silver sometimes too?” I ask and he nods.
Guess it’s impossible to tell them apart, except when they speak. Fenris is most arrogant. Conrad and Garren are a bit too alike in everything. But maybe I am the one that see it that way.
“I came to ask you about your family. Is there someone you care about back in Silverthorn?” He asks.
My heart throbs with apprehension. “Why do you
